Albert J. Joanning, 89 years old, of Granville, IA, died on Monday, Aug. 18, 2014, at his home near Granville, IA.
Funeral service will be at 10:30 a.m., Friday, Aug. 22, 2014, at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Granville with Rev. Terry Roder officiating. Burial will be in the St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery in Granville. Visitation will be any time after 4 p.m. on Thursday, Aug. 21, 2014. There will be a parish rosary at 5 p.m. & a vigil prayer service at 7 p.m., all at the St. Joseph Catholic Church in Granville. Services have been entrusted to Fisch Funeral Home & Monument in Remsen.
Albert was born Aug. 15, 1925, at Granville, IA, the son of Theodore & Agatha (Steichen) Joanning. He was raised in the Granville area and received his education in a rural school south of Granville. Albert joined the US Marine Corps in 1944 and served in China and in Guam during WWII. After his discharge he returned to the Granville area to farm.
On Sept. 26, 1949 he married Mary Beckmann at Remsen, IA. The couple farmed in the Granville area for over 60 years.
Al was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, Area CB Club. He enjoyed spending time with family and friends. His hobbies included driving truck, collecting belt buckles, raising longhorn cattle and visiting area casinos.
Survivors include: his wife of 64 years Mary of Granville; Two sons, Scott (Rose) Joanning of Kansas City, MO and Todd (Diane) Joanning of Granville; Three adopted granddaughters, Sterling, Paris and Krayton Schnepf of Granville; Three nephews, Harvey Joanning of Fairhope, Al, Roger (Dorie) Joanning of Norwalk, IA, and Jim Joanning and Patty Kelling of Granville.
Preceded by: his parents; one brother William (Lucille & Beth) Joanning, one nephew Pat Joanning.
Casket bearers will be Dick and Mike Schnepf, John Hansen, Dennis Friedman, Dave Klein, Dan Schroeder, Tom Haupert, Keith Kellen and Tom Ahlers.
