Alma Emma Adele Maass

Alma Emma Adele Maass, 92 years old, of Remsen, IA, died Sunday, April 1, 2018 at Good Samaritan Society in LeMars, IA.



Funeral service will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, April 5, 2018 at Christ Lutheran Church LCMS in Remsen with Pastor Duane Miesner officiating. Burial will follow in the Remsen Community Cemetery. Visitation with family present will be Wednesday from 5-7 p.m. with a prayer service at 7 p.m. all at the church in Remsen.



She was born Aug. 10, 1925 in rural Plymouth County, Grant Township, IA, the daughter of Louie and Helena (Garrels) Renken. She was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith at Christ Lutheran Church, Grant Township. She attended country school in Plymouth County.



She married Elmer Maass on Dec. 17, 1946 at Christ Lutheran Church in Remsen. They celebrated their 71st wedding anniversary this past December. She worked as a CNA for many years at Sioux Valley Memorial Hospital, Happy Siesta Health Care Center, Brentwood Nursing Home and for a private family. The couple farmed almost 50 years southeast of Remsen before retiring to their home in Remsen in 1993.



She was a long time member of Christ Lutheran Church where she was a Sunday School Teacher, choir member and President of the Ladies Aid Society. She helped prepare and serve meals at the Remsen Senior Center. Mom instilled in her children how important faith in the Lord is for all and to always work ahead on any project of job.



Left to cherish her memory include her husband, Elmer of LeMars, IA, daughter, Pamela (Dr. Thomas) Jeneary of LeMars, IA; two sons, Brian (Janell) Maass of Iowa City, IA, Dean Maass of LeMars, IA; daughter-in-law, Miyoko Maass of Saitama, Japan; 6 grandchildren, Dr. Greg (Anne) Jeneary, Phillip (Lindee) Jeneary, Julia (Julio Mina) Maass, Monica Maass, Kristi and Alex Maass; 5 great-grandchildren, Megan and Jacob Jeneary, Raegan and Carson Jeneary and Masaki Mina Maass; sister, Ruth Anderson of LeMars, IA; sisters-in-law, Judith Maass of Paulina and Judy Maass of Urbandale, IA.



Alma was preceded in death by her parents, Louis and Helena Garrels; son, Jerry Maass, and grandsons, Steven and Michael Jeneary; sisters, Edna (Herman) Buchholz and Elvira (Alfred) Wilken; sisters-in-law, Dorothy Robinson, Helen Bottjen and Faye Maass; brothers-in-law, Burton Anderson, George Bottjen, Glen Robinson, Wayne Maass and Roy Maass and many nieces and nephews.



Casket bearers will be Larry, Robert and Roger Anderson, Terry Maass, Steve and Scott Pratt.

The family requests memorials to be directed to Christ Lutheran Church in Remsen, Iowa S.I.D.S. Foundation and Hospice of Siouxland.
