Arlin Nichlous Pottebaum

October 27, 1939 — January 27, 2022

Arlin Nichlous Pottebaum, age 82, of Hospers, Iowa, passed away Thursday, Jan. 27, 2022 at Prairie Ridge Care Center in Orange City, Iowa. 

Mass of Christian Burial will be 1 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 5, 2022 at St. Anthony Catholic Church in Hospers with Father Dan Greving officiating. Burial will follow in the St. Anthony Catholic Cemetery in Hospers.  Visitation with family present will be one hour before service time on Saturday at the church.

Arlin was born Oct. 27, 1939 at Alton, IA the son of Anton & Anna (Pick) Pottebaum.  He was raised and educated in Alton and graduated from St. Mary’s Academy in 1957. 

On May 18, 1963 he married Marlene Ney at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Granville, IA.  The couple made their home at Hospers.  Arlin was a self-employed truck driver for almost all his adult life.

He was a member of St. Anthony Catholic Church.  He enjoyed playing card games 31 and Rummy.  He loved visiting his children and grandchildren.  He also enjoyed trucking and traveling the open road.

Survivors include his wife, Marlene of Hospers; his son, Ryan (Ronda) Pottebaum of Orange City, IA; daughters, Jill Verduin (Josh Vermeer) of Alton, IA, Gina (Eric) Spiller of Belton, MO; 9 grandchildren; his siblings, Ivan (Clare) Pottebaum of Granville, IA, Ike (Carol) Pottebaum of Le Mars, IA, Mary Ann (Art) Walker of Florida, Orville (Mary Ann) Pottebaum of Alton, IA; his mother-in-law, Doralice Ney of Granville, IA; sisters-in-law, Doris Pottebaum of Alton, IA, Jan Strouth of Orange City, IA and Carol Jean (Tom) Vortherms of Sioux City, IA; brother-in-law, Steve (Julie) Ney of Primghar, IA; many nieces & nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his siblings, Tarsella (Milo) Probst, Berdella (Herb) Schueller, Florence (Ray) Thole, Bernice (Ambrose) Block, Eugene Pottebaum, Howard Pottebaum, Anthony Pottebaum, Donna Rae Krogman; his father-in-law, Jack Ney.

Casket bearers will be Tristan Verduin, Austin Verduin, Kaden Pottebaum, Jorgen Pottebaum, Andrew Spiller & Ava Spiller.

 

Honorary bearers will be Kylar, Bryson & Brayleigh Verduin.
