Armella Mary Homan, 90 years old, of Remsen, IA, died Wednesday, Nov. 19, 2014, at Happy Siesta Health Care Center in Remsen.
Funeral service will be at 10:30 a.m., Saturday, Nov. 22, 2014, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Remsen with Rev. William McCarthy officiating. Burial will be in the St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery in Remsen. Visitation will be anytime after 4 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 21, 2014. There will be a parish rosary at 5 p.m., and a vigil prayer service at 7 p.m. all at Fisch Funeral Home & Monument in Remsen.
Armella was born on Aug. 23, 1924, in Alton, IA, the daughter of John and Susan (Mousel) Pottebaum. She was raised and educated in the Alton area. She began working at the Alton Savings Bank while a senior at St. Mary’s Academy and continued her employment there through 1945.
On June 4, 1945, she married Gerald Homan in Alton. The couple engaged in dairy farming southeast of Remsen until their retirement in 1979, and moved into Remsen in 1984. Gerald passed away on June 17, 1987.
Armella was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church. She was a member of the Christian Mothers and the Catholic Daughters of America. Her greatest enjoyment was time spent with her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.
Survivors include: her eleven children: Sister Jeanette Homan, OSF, of Remsen, IA; Rose Homan, DDS, of Omaha, NE; Richard (Betty) Homan of Remsen; Donald (Laurie) Homan of Cedar Rapids, IA; Mary Homan of Phoenix, AZ; Dave (RaNae) Homan of Remsen; Betty Klesitz of Omaha; Rita Homan of Omaha; Susan (Tom) Gensichen of Omaha; CMSgt Kathy (Keith) Munn of San Antonio, TX; Mark (Nina) Homan of Gretna, NE; 23 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; one sister, Irma Dreckman of Pipestone, MN; one brother-in-law, Dan Pick of Remsen; and one sister-in-law, Maxine Pottebaum of Alton, IA.
She was preceded in death by her parents, one son-in-law, Michael Klesitz, three sisters: Marcene Cole, Mildred DeLateur, Carol Jean Pick; five brothers: Ferd, John, Cecil, Dick, and Bernard Pottebaum.
Casket Bearers will be Ben Gensichen, Nick Corbin, Craig Homan, Jeff Homan, Jeremy Homan, and Sam Homan.
A memorial has been established at St. Mary’s Schools of Remsen in memory of Armella Homan.
