ALTON, Iowa -- Arnold Kreber, 98, of Alton died Tuesday, Dec. 27, 2016, at Happy Siesta Health Care Center in Remsen, Iowa.
Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday, December 31, 2016 at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Alton, with the Rev. Terry Roder officiating. Burial will be in St. Mary's Cemetery in Alton. Visitation with family present will be 4-7 p.m. Friday, with a parish rosary at 5 p.m. and a vigil prayer service at 7 p.m. followed by a Knights of Columbus Rosary, all at the St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Alton. Services have been entrusted to Fisch Funeral Home and Monument in Remsen, Iowa.
Arnold was born March 10, 1918, in Granville, Iowa, the son of August and Clara (Gukeisen) Kreber. He was raised and educated in the Granville area where he attended St. Joseph's Catholic School in Granville. He then began helping his mother operate a dairy farm in the Granville area.
He married Lorraine Pottebaum on June 6, 1944, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Alton. The couple farmed near Granville retiring on the farm in 1982. In December of 1989 they moved to Alton, Iowa.
He was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church and a 70 year member of the Knights of Columbus, guild and St. Mary’s Rosary Society. Arnold also enjoyed farming, playing cards and bus trips.
Arnold is survived by his wife, Lorraine of Remsen, IA, Children: Sister Janet Kreber O.S.F. of Sioux City, IA, Chuck Kreber of Granville, Iowa, Shirley (Jim) Thompson of Lincoln, NE, Rosemary (Garry) Eichorn of Davenport, IA, Glenn Kreber of Greeley, CO. daughter-in-law, Bonita Kreber of Wauke, IA. 9 grandchildren, 3 great-grandchildren, one sister, Viola Nelson of Cherokee, IA.
He was preceded in death by his parents: a son, Ronald Kreber, five sisters and their husbands, Evelyn (Henry) Klein, Mary Jane (Richard) Meis, Elenora Britton, Helen (Urban) Holles and Irene (Ed) Schlichte; two brothers; Clarence (Hilda) Kreber and Francis (Janet) Kreber. One brother-in-law, Elmer Nelson.
Casket bearers will be Arnold’s grandsons, Chad, Jason, Michael, Austin and Colton Kreber, Brian and Erik Thompson.
