Audrey Eloise Hansen, 68 years old, of Alton, IA, passed away on Monday, Nov. 23, 2015, at Floyd Valley Hospital in LeMars, IA, from complications after a 20 year battle with Rheumatoid Arthritis
Funeral service will be at 10:30 a.m., Saturday, Nov. 28, 2015, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Alton with Rev. Terry Roder officiating. Burial will be in the St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery in Alton. Visitation will be anytime after 4 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 27, 2015. There will be a parish rosary at 5 p.m. & a vigil prayer service at 7 p.m., all at the St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Alton. Services have been entrusted to Fisch Funeral Home & Monument in Remsen.
Audrey was born Oct. 31, 1947, at Woden, IA, the daughter of Alfred & Ellen (Tjaden) Boelkes. She was raised in Titonka, IA and graduated from high school in 1965. She then attended Northwestern College in Orange City, IA graduating in 1969. She began teaching in Decorah, IA for a year.
On Nov. 21, 1970 she married Edward Hansen at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Alton. Over the years she taught at Floyd Valley Elementary School, Sioux County Head Start, Kindergarten at St. Patrick’s in Sheldon and was a Reading and Early Childhood Consultant at Area 12 Education Agency. She also worked at the Orange City Public Library for a short time.
Audrey was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church, church guild and St. Mary’s Rosary Society. Her hobbies included sewing, quilting and she was an avid reader. In the early years of their marriage she enjoyed helping with farm work, canning, gardening, riding bike, teaching ceramics and she made the nativity set for St. Mary’s Catholic Church. She was a dedicated mother to her five children and enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren coloring, reading stories and having tea parties.
Survivors include: her husband of 45 years, Edward of Alton; her children, Mark (Rita) Hansen of Granville, IA, Krislyn (Paul) Althouse of Saronville, NE, Matthew (Tammy) Hansen of Alton, IA, Lisa (Benjamin) Whitmore of Hospers, IA, Jenna (Craig) Anthofer of Carroll, IA; nine grandchildren, Renae and William Hansen, Shannon and Austin Althouse, Kyle, Cody, Dana and Bryn Hansen, Gregory Whitmore; her aunt, Helen Fleischer of Freeport, IL; two sisters-in-law, JoAnn Hansen and Carol (Tom Dusbabek) Hansen both of Scottsdale, AZ; one brother-in-law, Bob (Brenda) Hansen of Greenfield, IA; several cousins, nieces and nephews.
Preceded by: her parents; two brothers-in-law, Jim and Walt Hansen, her three uncles, Owen (Jan Eberle) Tjaden, Harry (Pearl) Boelkes, Ken Fleischer, her aunt Zelma (Hodge) Binkley.
Casket bearers will be Benjamin and Gregory Whitmore, Craig Anthofer, Paul Althouse, Ric Hansen and Gaylen Schneider.
