The family requests that memorials be made in Beverly’s name to Cherokee Hospice.

Beverly Mae Galles, Age 94, a lifelong resident of Marcus, IA, passed away, Thursday, April 17, 2025 at her daughter’s home in Cherokee, Iowa, after a short illness.

Funeral service will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, April 22, 2025 at Peace Lutheran Church in Marcus, with Pastor Kevin Roop officiating. Burial will follow at the Trinity Lutheran Cemetery rural Marcus. Visitation with the family present will be Monday from 4-7 p.m., with prayer service at 7 p.m. all at the church. Services have been entrusted to Fisch Funeral Home & Monument-Earnest Johnson Chapel in Marcus, Iowa.

Beverly Mae Galles was born October 20, 1930 in Marcus, IA the fourth child of Alfred and Helen (Lothes) Dorr. She attended school at Trinity Country School and Marcus school. She attended 1 year of 8th Grade Confirmation class at Trinity Lutheran Church. She was a cheerleader and played basketball. She graduated from Marcus High School in 1949.

Beverly married Leon Ebert on October 14, 1950 at Trinity Lutheran Church, Marcus, IA. Leon and Beverly built their home in Marcus where Beverly was still living at the age of 94. They had 5 children; Linda, Joan, Rodney, Carol, and Steven. Leon passed away on December 27, 1968, due to a construction accident. Beverly worked as a secretary for Melvin Dorr for a short time and as a secretary for 26 years for Marcus Community Schools - retiring in July of 1992.

On May 26, 1978, Beverly married Robert (Bob) Galles, of Marcus at Peace Lutheran Church in Marcus. Bob had six children, Ron, Kathy, Tim, Fran, Joe, and Cindy and they welcomed her with open arms. Robert passed away January 17, 1997.

Beverly was member of Peace Lutheran Church and Peace Ladies Aid. She was devoted to Lutheran Braille for 15 years. She also put together many quilts for the Orphan Grain Train throughout her life, Beverly was involved in the community, Heartland Care Center Auxiliary, an advocate for Heartland Care Center, and also volunteered many hours helping with activities for the residents. She volunteered many years for the Marcus Fair Canning Division and the Marcus Food Pantry. She donated blood faithfully to LifeServe Blood center until her age wouldn’t allow it. She loved to put together jigsaw puzzles, was an avid reader and listened to many audio books as she quilted. She enjoyed sewing and made beautiful hand stitched quilts and a lot of baby blankets for her grandchildren. She sewed a lot of her children’s clothes when they were young. She was very thrifty and did a lot of her own home maintenance. Fixing electric outlets, some minor plumbing repairs, and reupholstering furniture. Beverly loved to garden and work in her yard. Her garden was small but put out a lot of produce which she canned and shared with neighbors and friends. She enjoyed cooking and coming up with her own recipes. She took pride in creating and printing her own greeting cards. She loved spending time with family, attending their sporting events, and traveling with them. She always brought along her maps and Atlas to help navigate if needed when GPS wasn’t working.

Preceding Beverly in death were her husbands, Leon Ebert, Robert Galles, her parents Alfred & Helen Dorr, sister Barbara (Paul) Spears; brothers, Richard (Donna) Dorr and Leland Dorr; daughter-in-law, Renee Ebert; bonus son, Ron Galles; and bonus grandson Chad Galles. Also, brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Marvin Ebert, Orlan Ebert, Deloris Means, Bernetta (Jim) Means and Marlis Donner. Also, some nieces and nephews.

Left to cherish her memory are her children, Linda (Dave) Gravenish, Joan (Steve) Swanson, Rodney (Beth) Ebert, Carol (Jay) Reuter and Steven (Jane) Ebert. She has 11 grandchildren, 3 step-grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren, 8+1 on the way step great-grandchildren.

Also left to cherish her memory are her bonus children, Pat Galles, Kathy Galles, Tim Galles (Monica), Fran (Roxanne) Galles, Joe (Lynn) Galles, and Cindy (Fred) Schiefen. She has 17 bonus grandchildren, 47 bonus great-grandchildren, and 5+1 on the way bonus great-great grandchildren.

Other surviving family members are nephew, David Spears; brothers; Vernon (Dorothy) Ebert, Bernell (Friend Madelyn) Ebert, sister-in-law Lorna Ebert and brother-in-law Bill Means. As well as many nieces and nephews.
