Carol Jean Gengler, 77 of Remsen, Iowa, passed away Friday, Aug. 14, 2020 at the Good Samaritan Society in Le Mars, Iowa.
PRIVATE Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 19, 2020 at Christ Lutheran Church LCMS in Remsen, with Pastor Garret Kasper officiating. Burial will follow at the St. Mary’s Cemetery in Remsen. Visitation open to the PUBLIC with family present, keeping to social distancing restrictions will be 1 hour prior to the funeral on Wednesday at Christ Lutheran Church LCMS. Masks will be required. Carol was born on June 22, 1943 at Bellflower, CA, she was the daughter of Edward & Irma (Howder) Strathman. She was raised and educated in Le Mars, IA and attended Le Mars Community High School. She then moved to California where she had two daughters and worked for 14 years. Carol and her girls moved back to Le Mars in 1976 where she worked at KLEM Radio station and Williams & Company Accounting.
In Sept. 1981 she married Richard “Dick” Gengler. The couple made their Home in Remsen. Carol worked at Mid-Sioux Opportunity Inc. and Remsen Apparel.
She was a member of Christ Lutheran Church LCMS in Remsen. Carol enjoyed her gardening, crafting, playing the flute, piano and organ. She also spent time with her beloved pet cockatiel “Goldie”.
Survivors include, her husband Dick Gengler of Remsen; one daughter, Tracy Ellensohn of Sioux Falls, SD; 11 grandchildren; 5 great-grandchildren; step-daughter, Erin (John) Blankenship of Hawarden, IA; step-son, Kevin (Amber) Gengler of Remsen, IA; 2 sisters, Connie (Richard) Frankhauser of Cedar Falls, IA; Julie Strathman of Columbus, NE; one brother, Curt (Pricilla) Strathman of Le Mars, IA; her sister-in-law, Judy (Bill) Scheitler of Le Mars, IA; several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by, her parents, 2 daughters, Pigeon Schorg at birth and Robin (Chuck) Sturges.
Casket bearers will be Andrew Ellensohn, Jared Haar, Kevin Gengler, John Blankenship, Kezden Blankenship.
