Ceci was born July 9, 1923 at Le Mars, IA. She was one of seven children born to George and Clara (Wathier) Bowers. She, and all seven children, worked at the Democrat, eventually published by the Bowers family for three generations. After graduating from St. Mary’s Academy, she worked at the Alton Democrat and the Rock Valley Bee.

On Jan. 27, 1945, she married Carl Hentges at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Alton. They lived in Des Moines, IA, and then Alton. She and Carl purchased the hardware business from Carl’s sister Molly Biever after the death of her husband Al. Next they bought the Hoxmier Store building adjoining his store and established Hentges Shoe and Clothing store and Hentges Plumbing & Heating.  In 1986 the couple retired and then traveled extensively to visit their children in distant places, finally settling in Fountain of the Sun in Mesa, AZ, for several years in the winters. In 2013 she went to Happy Siesta in Remsen, IA to recover from a fall.  After receiving great care, she was able to move to Landsmeer in Orange City.  After a 5 year stay there, she moved to Prairie Ridge Care Center in Orange City.

Ceci was a lifelong devoted member of St. Mary's Catholic Church.  She was a beautiful, intelligent and talented woman.  She was a fantastic writer, who also had fun composing witty and funny poems for her friends for special occasions.

Survivors include; 4 sons, Dave (Vicki) of Venice, FL, George (Sheila) of Martinez, GA, Charlie and his friend Jan of Diamond Bar, CA, and Jim (Corinne) of Alton, IA; 7 grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren; sister, Susan Willer of Cave Creek, AZ; Brother, John Bowers of Bend OR.

Preceded by her parents; her husband, Carl, one son, Tom; and brothers, James, Jerry, Bill and Frank Bowers.

The family will always be grateful to the staff members of Landsmeer Ridge and Prairie Ridge Care Centers for their care and compassion especially when we knew the end of her life was near.  We would also like to express our thanks to Father Greving for his comfort and support through this difficult time.  Thanks so much.
