Debra Kay Gergen, age 65 of Granville, IA passed away on Saturday, Jan. 16, 2021 at Orange City Area Health Systems in Orange City, IA after a lengthy battle with cancer.
Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 a.m., Thursday, Jan. 21, 2021 at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Granville, IA, with Father Daniel Greving officiating and Deacon Dan Goebel assisting. Burial will follow in the St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery in Granville. Visitation with family present will be Wednesday from 4-6 p.m. with a vigil prayer service at 5 p.m. all at the church, masks are required and social distancing guidelines will be followed. Visitation will resume 1 hour before the funeral at the church on Thursday. Services have been entrusted to Fisch Funeral Home & Monument in Remsen, IA.
Deb was born June 22, 1955 to Don & Donna (Rupp) Schoenenberger in Frankfort, Germany. As a military brat she traveled throughout the world. In 1973 she graduated from Windom Community High School in Windom, MN.
On Dec. 24, 1983 she married Randy Gergen at Las Vegas, NV. The couple made their home on a farm near Granville. Over the years Deb worked at many places and was involved in her community. Her most recent was with Hope Haven in Orange City, IA.
She was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Granville. She loved to tend to her flowers in the summer and attend her grandkids events. Being a grandma was her greatest joy.
Survivors include her husband Randy of Granville; her daughters, Crystal (Dwaine) Lammers of Granville and their children, Isaia, Ian and Isabel, Melissa (Barry) Galles of Remsen and their children, Kaylee, Wesley, Halle, Tre, Jaden and Chase; her brother-in-law, Marv (Mary) Gergen; her siblings, David (Margaret) Schoenenberger, Duane (Veronica) Schoenenberger, Darl (Pam) Schoenenberger, Doreen (Jeff) Benson, Daniel (Debra) Schoenenberger, Diana (Greg) Eide Schoenenberger; many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded by her parents, Don & Donna, Her in-laws, Vince & Bernice Gergen, Son, Nicholas Gergen, sister, Denise Schoenenberger, brother, Dennis Schoenenberger, brother-in-law, Duane Gergen, many aunts, uncles and grandparents.
Casket bearers will be Isaia Lammers, Ian Lammers, Isabel Lammers, Wesley Galles, Halle Galles and Kaylee Galles.
Honorary casket bearers will be Tre Galles, Jaden Galles and Chase Galles
