Dokmay Vongphakdy

Dokmay Vongphakdy, age 88 of Le Mars, IA peacefully passed away on April 9, 2024, at the Happy Siesta Health Care Center in Remsen, Iowa. 

Visitation with family present will be 7- 8:30 p.m. on Thursday, April 11, 2024 at Fisch Funeral Home & Monument in Remsen. Graveside service will be Friday at 1 p.m. at Memorial Park Cemetery in Sioux City, IA. 

She was born on August 8, 1935 in Vievtiane, Laos, the daughter of Khamphang & Chansy Vongphakdy.  She was a dedicated farmer in Laos where she lovingly raised vegetables and livestock.  In 1969 she married Lane Vongphakdy at Vientiane, Laos.  When they moved to the United States in 1986 as refugee’s Dokmay further contributed her skills at IBP then Tyson Foods for a number of years. Her commitment to her work was evident in all she did.

Dokmay cherished her education which she received in Vientiane, Laos, nurturing a thirst for knowledge throughout her life. She found joy in various hobbies like gardening, cooking, shopping, watching movies, and most of all, spending quality time with her grandchildren.

In her journey through life, Dokmay was preceded in death by her parents, Khamphang and Chansy Vongphakdy; four siblings; and her beloved husband, Lane Vongphakdy. She leaves behind a legacy that will be remembered by those who had the privilege of knowing her.

Dokmay is survived by her daughter, Nouane "Dom" (Bruce) Taylor of Le Mars, IA; four grandchildren – Nina, Toukatha, Arnoldo and Ava; as well as her great-grandchildren Declan and Eden. Her impact extended even to her canine companions as she is also survived by her dog grandchild Donut.

Dokmay's presence in the lives of those around her will be deeply missed but the memories shared will continue to bring comfort and warmth to all who were touched by her kindness and love.

Casket bearers will be Bruce, Baha, Johnathan and Arnoldo.
