Donald Joseph Delperdang, 80 of Remsen, IA. passed away on June 13, 2022.
Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday, June 17, 2022, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Remsen, IA with Father Timothy Pick officiating and Deacon Doug Heeren assisting. Burial will follow at St. Mary’s Cemetery in Remsen, Iowa. Graveside Military Honors will be conducted by the VFW Post 3328 and American Legion Post 220 of Remsen. Visitation with family present will be 4-7p.m. on Thursday, there will be a Knights of Columbus & Catholic Order of Foresters rosary, 4th Degree Knights of Columbus Chalice presentation and vigil prayer service at 5 p.m. all at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Remsen. Visitation will resume 1 hour prior to the funeral on Friday at the church.
Donald was born June 18, 1941 in Marcus, the son of Gerald & Edith (List) Delperdang. He was raised in Marcus until 1949, when Gerald & Edith moved to a farm north of Remsen, at which time Donald attended St. Mary’s School in Remsen, Ia. graduating in 1959.
After high school graduation, Donald went to active duty with the National Guard. Returning to Remsen, he worked for the Farmer’s Coop Elevator for five years. On February 4, 1961 Donald married Beverly Joan Von Arb and lived on a farm north of Remsen. In 1964, Donald started farming with his Father, Gerald Delperdang, until Gerald passed away in 1973. Next to his wife and family, farming was the greatest joy in Donald’s life, and he continued that until he passed away.
Donald was very active in the community, being a member of St. Mary’s School Board, Parish Council, Finance Board, Parish Director, Lector and Lay Minister for many years. Donald served on the Remsen-Union School Board and Elevator Board for many years. He was also active with the Cattlemen’s Association and Pork Producers Association, receiving the Iowa Master Pork Producer Award in 1988.
Donald was a member of the American Legion, the Catholic Order of Foresters, the Msgr. Schemmel Council of the K of C’s in Remsen, and the Father Mc Givney Assembly of the 4th Degree K of C’s in Le Mars.
He was always so devoted to his family, and enjoyed visiting the children and grandchildren, having them visit, and playing many games with them. He enjoyed playing cards throughout his lifetime, as well as traveling with Beverly.
Donald is survived by his wife, Beverly, sons, Joe Delperdang of Sioux City, Kirk (Leslie) Delperdang of Omaha, and Rick (Judy) Delperdang of Remsen, daughters, Debbie Koch of Omaha, and Connie (Ken) Sudtelgte of Le Mars. 14 Grandchildren, Paige & Grant Delperdang of Sioux City, Andrew (Anna) Koch, Kayla (Chris) Hansen and Zach (Paige) Koch of Omaha, Josh (Tara) Sudtelgte of Sioux Falls, Amanda (Brandon) Feller of LeMars, Rachael (Evan) Graumann of Kansas City, Jack and Sam Delperdang of Omaha. Tyler (fiancee Allison Kjar) Delperdang of Remsen, Haley (fiance Dallas Jalas) Delperdang of Paullina, Lexie and Taya Delperdang of Remsen, 4 Great Grandchildren, Emma & Colton Feller, Brooks Hansen and Carter Delperdang, brothers, Ronald (Donna) of Phoenix, AZ, Larry (Julie) of Sioux City, and 2 Sisters, Sharon (Norman) Nieland of Carroll, and Carla (Bob) Brannan of Odeboldt.
He was preceded in death by 3 children at birth, Thomas, Lisa and Terri Lynn Delperdang. His parents, Gerald & Edith Delperdang, and a brother, David Delperdang, Mother & Father in law, Paul & Barbara Von Arb, and numerous brothers and sisters in law.
Casket bearers will be his 7 grandsons, Grant Delperdang, Andrew Koch, Zach Koch, Josh Sudtelgte, Jack Delperdang, Sam Delperdang & Tyler Delperdang
Honorary bearers will be members of the Catholic Order of Foresters and the 4th Degree Knights of Columbus.
