Donald Pick, 81 years old, of Oyens, IA, died Sunday, Aug. 17, 2014, at his home in Oyens, IA.
Funeral service will be at 10:30 a.m., Thursday, Aug. 21, 2014, at St. Catherine’s Catholic Church in Oyens with Rev. Tim Hogan officiating. Burial will be in the St. Catherine’s Catholic Cemetery in Oyens. Graveside military honors will be conducted by VFW Post 3328 and American Legion Post 220 of Remsen. Visitation will be any time after 4 p.m. on Wednesday, Aug. 20, 2014. There will be a parish rosary at 5 p.m. & a vigil prayer service at 7 p.m., all at Fisch Funeral Home & Monument in Remsen.
Don was born March 26, 1933, at Remsen, IA, the son of Arthur & Frances (Determan) Pick. He grew up rural LeMars and attended country school and Remsen Union. Donald was engaged in farming with his Dad and joined the U.S. Army in 1953 through 1955.After the service he went back to into farming.
On May 21, 1960 he married Helen Homan at Alton. They farmed in Union Township for several years then moved into Oyens in 1965. He then began work at Well’s Dairy in LeMars until 1995 when he retired. Helen died June 1, 1997.
Don was a member of St. Catherine’s Catholic Church,
Survivors include: his two daughters, Deb (Rick) Sitzmann of Hinton, IA, Denise (Tom) Murphy of Orange City, IA; six grandchildren, Sara, Bradley & Mariya Sitzmann, Colby, Caitlin & Carli Murphy; one great-grandchild, Aniah Sitzmann; two brothers, Jake (Rosie) Pick of LeMars, Robert (Karen) Pick of LeMars, IA; two sisters-in-law, Sandra Pick of Correctionville, IA and Carole Pick of Omaha, NE.
Preceded by: his parents, one sister, Rosemary Miller, brothers, Leo & Cletus Pick.
Casket bearers will be his six grandchildren.
