Dorothy "Dorie" Feller-Kolker

Dorothy “Dorie” Feller-Kolker, age 80 of Remsen, IA. passed away on Thursday, Sept. 15, 2022 at home surrounded by her children after a courageous battle with pancreatic cancer.

 

Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 20, 2022, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Remsen, IA with Father Timothy Pick officiating and Deacon Doug Heeren assisting.  Burial will follow at St. Mary’s Cemetery in Remsen, Iowa.  Visitation with family present will be 4-7 p.m. on Monday, there will be a parish rosary and vigil prayer service at 5 p.m. all at Fisch Funeral Home & Monument in Remsen.  Visitation will resume at 9:30 a.m. on Tuesday at the funeral home.  Services have been entrusted to the Fisch Funeral Home & Monument in Remsen.  Funeral will be livestreamed at www.fischfh.com

 

Dorie was born Sept. 14, 1942 in Le Mars, IA the daughter of Alphonse & Erma (Thiel) Pick.  She was raised with her siblings on a farm south of Remsen.  She attended Remsen St. Mary’s School from 1st thru 3rd grade.  She graduated with her high school education from Union Consolidated in 1961.  She also graduated in 1986 from CNA School, 1987 Activity Director School and 1989 Floral Designs.

 

Dorie married Peter M. Feller on June 12, 1962 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Remsen.  To this union Dorie & Pete were blessed with 5 children, Karen, Chris, Connie, Pete and one infant that died at birth.

 

Dorie married Donald J. Kolker on May 7, 1993 in Remsen and to this union she gained 3 step-children & their families, Steve, Linda & Denise.  The couple made their home in Remsen.  Don passed away April 18, 2016.

 

Over the years Dorie worked and assisted with Pete Feller Sales, Feller Auto Sale, The Ford Dealership & Remsen Auction Company, Happy Siesta Health Care Center, Avalon Ballroom, Mica Hill in Hawarden, Quality Childcare with her daughter Connie, Chris Feller Sales, Swain Motor Company, SNS Auction, Mike’s Body Shop, St. Mary’s Lunch Program, Grandma’s Garden at Marcus, Bavarian Meadows Assisted Living, Beer City, Remsen Flower Shop, Treinen & Bentz Clothing, Mueller’s Inc. and Pick’s Corner.

 

Dorie was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church, church guild and St. Mary’s Everlasting Choir.  She was Remsen citizen of the year in 1999, she was past president of the Remsen Lioness.  She volunteered in the Mission Society which she was very active in their garage sales, Ladies Auxiliary, past chairman of the Board of The Siouxland Aging in Sioux City, IA, board member of the Remsen Octoberfest, past regent of Catholic Daughters of America, and active with the Le Mars Postal Playhouse. She was a St. Mary’s Church & Happy Siesta Lay Minister. She loved showing her creativity & sewing abilities by helping make costumes for the St. Mary’s high school plays.  

 

She loved all her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren more than you would know.  She made it to almost all their activities. She loved to sew, make Christmas ornaments. Dorie and Don loved going fishing with family and friends (always happy to beat Marvin Pottebaum in fishing).

 

Left to cherish her memory are her children, Karen (Rick) Swain of Cherokee, IA, Chris (Lisa) Feller of Woodbine, IA, Connie (Tim) Begnoche of Norwalk, IA, Pete Feller of Remsen, IA; step children, Steve (Janet) Kolker of Le Mars, IA, Linda (Dave) Flakne of Madison, WI, Denise (Rob) Olson of Monument, CO; 20 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; 1 great-great-grandchild on the way; 1 sister-in-law, Nancy Pick of Le Mars, IA; 3 brothers-in-law, Gus Gano of Cherokee, IA, Ken (Diane) Kolker of Le Mars, IA and Lloyd Kolker of Sioux City, IA

 

She was preceded in death by her parents; a son in infancy; her brothers, Jerry (Jolene) Pick, Joe (Jan) Pick, Cliff Pick, Dan (Carol) Pick, Glen (Kitty) Pick; her sisters, Vera (Harold) Berding Gano, Ruth (Dick) Rhodes, twin grandchildren of Rob & Denise Olson at birth.  

 

Casket bearers will be David Kolker, Brandon Begnoche, Mike Swain, Mike Swain Jr., Dan Begnoche, Russell Feller.
