Steven Schachterle, age 77, of Marcus Iowa, passed away Thursday, November 6, 2025 at Heartland Care Center in Marcus, Iowa after a battle with COPD.
Steve was born on December 12, 1947 in Hampton, Iowa to Frederick and Phyllis (Burma) Schachterle. He was raised in Ackley, Iowa, attended the University of Northern Iowa and Palmer Chiropractic School.
On October 1, 1971 he married Connie Martin and they made their home in Marcus, Iowa. They had 2 children, Heidi, and Kelli. Steve opened Marcus Chiropractic Healthcare in 1976 and spent 49 years serving the area before retiring in 2025.
Steve, known to all his friends as Doc, loved to golf and bowl. He was known to pop up as a local entertainer, performing in plays and dressing up for birthday parties. Doc had a lot of fun dressing up for the Marcus fair. He was a Sheikh in a Jeep, a pig that herded pigs and also sat in the dunk tank while slinging camel poop (also know as bran muffin mix) at the dunkers. He also wowed the crown in his red dress in the Marcus beauty pageant.
Steve is survived by his wife Connie, two daughters, Heidi (Jerome) Holmes of Marcus, Iowa and Kelli (Chad) Carey of Cherokee, Iowa; 5 Grandchildren, Jerome, Devyn, Mya, Reegen and Reese; Brothers Jim (Mary Ann) Schachterle, Dave (Linda) Schachterle, Sister Sherry (Bob) Arends; Sister-in-law Karen (Mick) Buss; Mother-in-law Lillian Martin; Special family members Kayla and Kendall Holmes and multiple nieces and nephews.
Steve was preceded in death by his parents, Frederick and Phyllis Schachterle and Father-in-law Donald Martin.
