Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 A.M. on Tuesday, September 5, 2023, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Alton, Iowa. Burial will follow at St. Mary’s Cemetery in Alton. Visitation with family present will be 4 - 7 P.M. on Monday. There will be a parish rosary and vigil prayer service at 5 P.M. all at the church. Visitation will resume at 9:30 A.M. on Tuesday at the church. Services have been entrusted to Fisch Funeral Home & Monument in Remsen.
Edna was born on February 7, 1931 to Tony and Regina (Roling) Pick in Remsen, IA. She was raised in Remsen graduating from St. Mary’s Catholic School.
Edna married Cyril J. Haupert on June 26, 1951 at St Mary’s Catholic Church in Remsen. They made their home on a farm outside of Granville, where they farmed until retiring in 1992 where she was a full-time homemaker. Then they moved into Alton. She attended St. Mary’s Catholic in Alton and was a past member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Granville. In 2019 she moved to Prairie Ridge Care Center in Orange City, IA, who gave her wonderful care. Cyril passed away on Sept. 1, 2019.
Edna was known for baking homemade bread, cinnamon rolls and serving the family Rice Krispie chicken every Sunday night. She enjoyed sewing for her family, playing cards and spending time with her family. Edna and Cyril not only share the same birth date of February 7 but also share the same death date of Sept. 1.
Survivors include her six children, Mary (Bob) Pohlen of Tracy, MN, Tom (Marlene) Haupert of Granville, IA, Ron (Jane) Haupert of Hospers, IA, Lou Ann (Gordon) Pottebaum of Sheldon, IA, Linda (Nick) Plathe of Alton, IA and Joleen (Dale) Konz of Alton, IA; 21 grandchildren; 36 great-grandchildren; and 2 great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband Cyril; her parents, Tony and Regina Pick; father and mother-in-law, Nick & Rose Haupert; four brothers, Alfred (Mert) Pick, Milo (Virginia) Pick, Jim (Cleo) Pick and Darold (Carol) Pick, two sisters Addie (Louis) George and Rita (Harold) Wandersheid.
