Elaine Jean Rassel, age 86 of Marcus, Iowa passed away on Wednesday, May 20, 2026 at her home in Marcus.

Funeral service will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday, May 28, 2026 at Faith Lutheran Church in Marcus with Rev. Liz Pfeifle officiating. Burial will follow at Marcus Amherst Cemetery in Marcus. Visitation with family present will be 5-7 p.m. on Wednesday at Fisch Funeral Home & Monument, Earnest-Johnson Chapel in Marcus, Iowa. Visitation will resume at 9:30 a.m. on Thursday at the church. Services have been entrusted to Fisch Funeral Home & Monument in Marcus, Iowa.

Elaine Jean Rassel was born on Feb. 10, 1940 in Remsen, Iowa, the daughter of Raymond and Esther (Lassen) Juhl. She was baptized into the Lutheran faith at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Remsen, Iowa and confirmed at the Carmel Lutheran Church in Marcus (now Faith Lutheran). Elaine attended Marcus High School, graduating in 1958. Following graduation, she worked at Jeanette’s (Coffee Cup) and later at R&E Cafe, then eventually at K-Products for the next 20 years and returned to school for a degree in Journalism, graduating in 2001 from NCC. Shortly afterwards, she began working for the next 20 years at the Marcus News. Elaine married Floyd Rassel and they were blessed with 9 children.

Elaine was a member of Faith Lutheran Church and participated in WELCA. She enjoyed cooking and baking and writing for the newspaper. She also enjoyed telling everyone about her adventures with Zachary and Bethany, especially when Zachary and Bethany took her to the Buffalo Roundup in Custer, SD with her bags packed telling her that Zachary was going to meet Rodney in Sioux Falls.

She will be lovingly remembered by her children, Rodney (Sarah) Rassel Sioux City, IA, Cameron (Gina) Rassel Marcus, IA, Jennifer (Scott) Allen Le Mars, IA, Zachary of Marcus, IA, Jesse (Amber) Rassel Alton, IA; daughter-in-law, Lori Rassel of Marcus, IA; 15 grandchildren and many great-grandchildren; a sister, Carolyn Albrecht of Spencer, IA; nieces and nephews, Brian (Mindy) Albrecht, Jason (Kelly) Albrecht, Steven Schuetz,.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Floyd; children, Jeffrey, Jean, Charlton, and Justin; sister, Jeanette; brother-in-law, Clifton “Ike” Albrecht and granddaughter Ashley.

Casket bearers will be Rodney Rassel, Cameron Rassel, Zachery Rassel, Nate Rassel, Steven Schuetz, Kiel Rassel.
