Frances Ann Ahlers

Frances Ann Ahlers, age 79 of Marcus, IA and formerly of Granville, IA passed away on Wed., Jan. 1, 2020 at Happy Siesta Health Care in Remsen, IA.   

Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 a.m., Monday, Jan. 6, 2020 at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Granville, IA, with Father Daniel Greving officiating and Deacon Dan Goebel assisting. Burial will follow in the St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery in Granville.  Visitation with family present will be Sunday from 4-7 p.m., there will be a parish rosary and vigil prayer service at 5 p.m. all at the church.  Visitation will resume at 9:30 a.m. Monday at the church.  Services have been entrusted to Fisch Funeral Home & Monument in Remsen, IA.
 
Frances was born on Easter Sunday, March 24, 1940 to Frank & Kathryn (Delaney) Burch at Sacred Heart Hospital in LeMars, IA. She was raised in Marcus and received her education at Holy Name Catholic High School graduating in 1958.  She also attended Northwest Community College in Sheldon where she graduated with an Associate Degree.  She worked at Village Northwest in Sheldon.

On June 1, 1960 she married Gerald Ahlers at Holy Name Catholic Church in Marcus.  The couple made their home on a farm near Granville, IA where they lived and farmed until 2015 when they moved into Marcus.  Frances moved to Happy Siesta Memory Care in April 2019.

Frances was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Granville, church guild and Holy Name Catholic Church in Marcus.  She loved to travel.  She took many trips with Gerald and enjoyed her travels to Europe. She loved living on the farm, her flower gardens, watching the birds and going for walks. Survivors include her husband Gerald of Marcus; three children, Michael R. (Susan) Ahlers of Hartley, IA, Julia Kathryn (Richard) Ness of Boyd, MN, Randall J. (Carla) Ahlers of Remsen, IA; 8 grandchildren, Rebecca, Kathryn, Joseph Christopher (Justine) Ahlers, Jonathan, Nicholas, Jennifer and Thomas, Ahlers; 3 great-grandchildren, Aiden, Lincoln and Declan; sister, Phyllis (Larry) Rapagnani of Marcus; brother, Bill (Kelley) Burch of South Sioux City, IA.

She was preceded in death by her parents, grandson, David Michael, many aunts and uncles. 

Casket bearers will be, Christopher, Nicholas, Thomas, Joseph, Kathryn and Jennifer Ahlers.
