Fred Ahlers, 73 of LeMars, IA passed away Tuesday Feb. 13, 2018 at Good Samaritan Society in LeMars, IA.
Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 a.m. Monday, Feb. 19, 2018 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Remsen with Rev. William McCarthy officiating and Deacon Rick Roder assisting. Burial will follow in the Nassau Township Cemetery Alton, IA. Visitation with family present will be Sunday from 4-6 p.m. There will be a parish rosary and vigil prayer service at 5 p.m. all at Fisch Funeral Home & Monument in Remsen. Fred was born on May 11, 1944 to Clarence and Norma (Ludwig) Ahlers in LeMars, Iowa. He grew up on the farm and attended country school. When the country school closed, he continued his education in Remsen.
He married Faye (Langstraat) Heerde on June 28, 1980 at Alton, IA. Fred, Faye, Ann and David resided in Remsen for 13 ½ years. Fred and Faye moved to the farm in December 1993.
He was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Remsen and Catholic Order of Foresters. Fred’s passion was farming. He enjoyed attending farm shows, listening to the markets, Sunday drives through the countryside and engaging in any farm related activities.
Survivors include his wife Faye of LeMars, IA, daughter Ann Heerde of Grand Rapids, MI, son David Heerde of LeMars, IA; grandson by love, Jonathan Timp; siblings, Dave (Lynn) Ahlers, Phil (Teryl) Ahlers, Christine (Scott) Nielsen all of Remsen, Barbara (Dennis) Heinrich of LeMars, IA, Mary Tucker of Enfield, NH, numerous nieces and nephews; his aunts and uncles, Clara Ahlers, Edward Ahlers both of Granville, IA, Rita These of Hendricks, MN; also survived by Gary & Marlene Heerde of Sheldon, IA.
Preceeded in death by his parents, his brother, Dan Ahlers and his nephew Michael Ahlers.
Casket Bearers will be Jonathan Time, Christopher Nielsen, Justin Nielsen, Jeremy Ahlers, Derek Ahlers, James Heerde, Alex Heerde.
