Gerald "Jerry" Schroeder
April 28, 1935 — August 24, 2019
Gerald “Jerry” Schroeder, age 84, passed away on August 24, 2019 holding the hand of the love of his life, Marian Bowker Schroeder.
Visitation with family present will be Friday, Aug. 30, 2019 from 9-10:30 a.m. There will be a rosary, vigil prayer service and Divine Mercy Chaplet at 10:30 a.m. with Father William McCarthy officiating all at Fisch Funeral Home & Monument in Remsen. Burial will follow in the St. Mary's Cemetery in Remsen.
Jerry was born on April 28, 1935 to Ray and Virginia (Masuen) Schroeder in Remsen, Iowa. He had to travel to California to meet his midwestern wife. The two were wed on September 7, 1957. They raised five children Marie (Dave) Fisher, Kim (Dave) Bedel, Joan (Mark) Hartman, Keith (Robyn) Schroeder and MaryBeth (Jerrod) Olson.
Jerry and Marian farmed until the late 70’s when Jerry became the Director of Housing at Mid-Sioux Community Action Agency. In 1983 they moved to Colorado to pursue their lifelong dream of living in the Rocky Mountains. Upon their retirement they moved to Lakeview, Arkansas.
Jerry has a special knack for making wood shine. He crafted many beautiful works of art that grace the homes of his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. Jerry was also an avid collector of model cars and tractors. He collected so many that he even needed to be reminded by his 3 year old grandson, “Grandpa you have to share.”
He leaves his children with happy memories of water fights, camping trips and eating breakfast in forts surrounding their farm.
He is preceded in death by his parents, brother Danny, his brother in-laws and his infant daughters, Rosemary and Elizabeth.
He leaves behind his loving wife of 62 years and best friend Marian, his five children and their 20 grand children and 29 great grandchildren.
There will be a Rosary from 6:00-7:00pm, Tuesday, August 27, at Roller Funeral Home.
A Funeral Mass will be held at 10:00am, Wednesday, August 28, at St. Peter The Fisherman Catholic Church, 249 Dyer St., Mountain Home.
