Gerald J. Bentz, 77, of Orange City, Iowa, passed away Sunday, Nov. 5, 2017 at Orange City Health System Hospital, Iowa.
Funeral Service will be held at 10:30 am Tuesday, Nov. 7, 2017 at Fisch Funeral Home & Monument in Remsen, IA with Rev. William McCarthy officiating. Burial will follow at a later date at St. Mary’s Cemetery in Remsen, IA. Visitation with family present will be Monday from 5-7:15 p.m. with a vigil prayer service at 7:15 p.m. all at Fisch Funeral Home & Monument in Remsen.
Jerry was born Feb.11, 1940 at LeMars, IA, the son of John and Christine (Hatz) Bentz. He was raised in the Remsen area. He attended St. Mary’s High School and graduated in 1959. His dad worked for Illinois Central Railroad as a Forman of section crew so Jerry’s love for trains was only natural. He spent many days living on the train helping serve the crew. Jerry had many jobs through his lifetime.
Jerry was a kind soul, who would do anything for anyone. He loved golfing, fishing and spending time with family.
He is survived by his brother Jim Bentz of Dubuque, IA; niece Donna Passé of Orange City, IA, nephews, Larry Miller of Remsen and special friend Carmen Heath of Storm Lake, IA, Dave of Remsen, Jeffrey (Judy) Miller of Cherokee, IA, Rick (Shelia) Miller of Marcus, IA, Martin (Barb) Bentz of Dubuque, IA, John (Kelley) Bentz of Humboldt, IA, Robert (Jo Lynn) Bentz of Dubuque, IA; “three granddaughters”, Kora, Faith & Emmalynn.
He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother Tom Bentz and one sister, Mary (Bentz) Miller.
