Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, April 11, 2023 at St. Catherine Catholic Church in Oyens, IA with Fr. Tim Hogan officiating and Fr. Timothy Pick concelebrating. Burial will follow at the St. Catherine Cemetery in Oyens.  Visitation with family present will be 4 - 7 p.m. on Monday April 10, 2023 with a vigil prayer service at 5 p.m. all at Fisch Funeral Home & Monument in Remsen. Gloria was born to James and Mildred (Nielsen) Peterson in LeMars, Iowa, on May 5,1945. She was raised on a farm west of Remsen and went to school at Remsen Union, where she graduated in 1963. Gloria married Jerry Treinen on December 7,1964. The couple lived on a farm just outside of Remsen, where they were blessed with two children, Roger and Susan, bringing the Treinen siblings total to eight. Gloria was a devoted wife and mother. She attended church at St. Catherine in Oyens, sitting in the choir loft with Jerry. She worked for K Products for a number of years. The couple enjoyed evenings dancing the two-step and going out with friends. Gloria loved shopping—especially for the trunks full of flowers she planted each spring. She spent countless hours mowing lawn and tending her flower gardens. And everyone in the room knew when “Glo” was watching the Iowa Hawkeyes. An excellent cook, Gloria was famous for her fried chicken and creamed cauliflower. But to really see Gloria’s face light up, one needed only to ask about her eight children, fourteen grandchildren, and twenty-four great-grandchildren. She was lovingly known as “Farm Grandma”.

Gloria is survived by her children: Jay Treinen of Dallas, TX; Jackie (John) Kaufman of Dakota Dunes, SD; Joe Treinen of San Francisco, CA; Jane (Keith) Strunk of Charlestown, IN; Jeff (Karla) Treinen of Rock Valley, IA; Roger (Chitra) Treinen of Gilbert, AZ; and Susan (Lynn) Van Dyke of Spirit Lake, IA. Gloria is also survived by her brother, Tom (Charlene) Peterson of Le Mars, IA and her sister, Carol (Phil) Ritz of Remsen, IA, along with many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, extended family members, and friends.

Gloria was preceded in death by her husband, Jerry; parents, James and Mildred Peterson; a son, Jim Treinen; two grandsons, Daniel Treinen and Craig Van Dyke; brothers-in-law, Chuck, Roman, Dick, Kenny, and John Treinen; sisters-in-law, Callista Cach, Joan Bachmann, Shirley Homan, and Ruth Cach; and her father and mother-in-law, Charles and Anna (Kemp) Treinen.

Casket bearers will be Eric and Keith Krienert, Tim and Alex Van Dyke, Chris Treinen and J.J. Strunk.

Honorary bearers will be Randy Strunk, Randall Mattingly, Sean Garvis Suits, Jeff Whidden, Braden Van Veldhuizen, Mike Ritz and Cody Peterson.
