Gwendolyn Barbara Schuver, age 97 of Granville, Iowa passed away on Tuesday, Dec. 16, 2025 at Orange City Area Health System in Orange City, IA.
Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 a.m., Saturday, Dec. 20, 2025, at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Granville, IA, with Father Daniel Greving officiating and Deacon Dan Goebel assisting. Burial will follow in the St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery in Granville. Visitation with family present will be 4-6:30 p.m. on Friday at the church, with a rosary & vigil prayer service at 5 p.m. Services have been entrusted to Fisch Funeral Home & Monument in Remsen, IA www.fischfh.com
Gwen was born April 11, 1928, the daughter of Dr. A. J. Miller and Florence (Graff) Miller in Granville, IA. She was raised in Granville and attended elementary school at St. Joseph’s Catholic School in Granville. She attended St Mary’s High School in Alton, IA and later attended and graduated with a bachelor’s degree from Briar Cliff University in Sioux City, IA. She taught business classes in Varina, Iowa for one year.
On January 8, 1951 she married Marcel J. Schuver at St Joseph’s Catholic Church in Granville, getting married during the 8 a.m. grade school Mass. Gwen and Marcel made their home, raised their children, farmed, and fed cattle on the farm located two and a half miles west of Granville, on the acreage now called Poverty Acres. Marcel passed away in Feb. 8, 2008.
Gwen enjoyed her family, baking, reading, bowling, and taking trips “up north” to go fishing. She was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, Catholic Daughters, and for many years was a Eucharistic Minister and money counter for St. Joseph parish in Granville.
Gwen is survived by eight of her 10 children: Douglas (Shelley) of Granville, IA; James (Connie) of West Bend, IA; Cynthia (Rod) Pottebaum of Alton, IA; Tony (Lori) of Alton, IA; Carol Glendenning of West Des Moines, IA; Janet (Rick) Dehner of Hinton, IA; John, and Marcel, Jr. of Granville, IA; and one brother Thomas (Kathleen) Miller of San Antonio, TX. She is also survived by 15 grandchildren, 24 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild: Chris (Jana) Schuver, Nathan and Andrew; Dan (Trish) Schuver, Hudson and Benett; Matt Schuver; Jennifer (Jeremy) Faeth, Karlie Hartman and Ajla Haric and Kellen Hartman; Jeremy (Traci) and Kylee Schuver; Christin (Matt) Konz, Addison, Kennedy and Will; Kate (Sam) Huff, Bethany and Rachel; Emily (Cody) Sorgdrager, Noah, Cambri, Lili and Jersey Fleming; Ethan Schuver; Alex (Mitch) Maiers, Collins, Lincoln, and Crew; Grant (Stephanie) and Amelia; Kelsey (Bennett) Wiltfang; Jake (Makayla) Glendenning; Sara (Michael) Siegele, Everett and Theodore; and Jaclyn (Adam) McNamara, Calvin and Cyrus.
In addition to her parents and husband, Gwen was preceded in death by two daughters, Ellen and Beverly; a granddaughter Morgan Schuver; two sisters-in-law, Marjorie Murphy and Wanda Schuver; and two brothers-in-law, Ray Schuver and Francis Murphy.
Casket bearers will be Chris Schuver, Jeremy Schuver, Christin Konz, Ethan Schuver, Jake Glendenning, Sara Siegele.
