Helen Grage, 94 years old, of Remsen, IA, passed away Thursday, Sept. 19, 2013 at Floyd Valley Hospital in LeMars, IA.
Funeral service will be at 10 a.m., Tuesday, Sept. 24, 2013, at Christ Lutheran Church LCMS in Remsen with Rev. Dennis Martens officiating. Burial will be in the Remsen Community. Visitation will be anytime after 4 p.m. on Monday, Sept 23, 2013, with a prayer service at 6:30 p.m. all at the Fisch Funeral Home & Monument in Remsen. Visitation will resume from 9:00 a.m. until service time at the church Tuesday.
Helen was born April 6, 1919, at rural Marcus, IA, the daughter of John and Margaretha (Brandt) Gottsche. She was raised and educated in the Marcus area until the age of 12 when she moved with her family to near Paullina, IA, where she finished her education. She then did domestic work in the Paullina and Remsen areas. On July 26, 1945, she married Walter Grage at Remsen. They made their home near Remsen where she assisted her husband in farming. They retired on the farm in 1978. On Feb. 11, 2010 they moved to Bavarian Meadows in Remsen. Walter died Feb. 9, 2012.
Helen was a member of Christ Lutheran Church LCMS. Helen enjoyed gardening and was an immaculate housekeeper.
Survivors include: one sister, Mrs. John (Alma) Quasebarth of Morris, MN; one brother-in law and two sisters-in-law, Arlie and his wife Aileen Grage of Marcus, IA and Marge Grage of Remsen and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceeded in death by: her parents, three brothers, George, Johnie and William Gottsche and one sister, Mary Gottsche in infancy.
Casket Bearers will be: Craig Christman, George Gottsche, Gary and Lee Grage, Marvin Holtz and Arlie Pick.
