Helen Galles, 73 years old, of Remsen, IA, died Friday, March 23, 2018 in Remsen.
Funeral service will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, March 27, 2018 at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Remsen with Rev. William McCarthy officiating and Deacon Rick Roder assisting. Burial will follow in the St. Mary’s Cemetery in Remsen. Visitation with family present will be Monday from 4-7 p.m. with a parish rosary and vigil prayer service at 7 p.m. all at Fisch Funeral Home & Monument in Remsen.
She was born March 12, 1945 in LeMars, IA, the daughter of John and Philomena (Langel) Harpenau. She was raised on the farm and received her education at St. Mary's in Remsen, graduating in 1963.
She married Paul Galles on January 22, 1966 at St. James Catholic Church in LeMars, IA.
She was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church and church guild. She was also President of the inaugural St. Mary's High School yearbook and Go-Getters softball coach and was co-owner of Nielsen-Galles Insurance Agency for eighteen years. She loved quilting, bowling, fishing, cheating at card games, and inventing bedtime stories for the grandchildren.
Survivors include her husband Paul of Remsen, IA, daughter, Angela (Tom) Shaw of Memphis, TN and grandchildren Taryn and Jeb, daughter, Tammie (Brad) Schroeder of Pleasant Hill, IA and grandchildren Luke, Lauren, and Samantha, daughter, Theresa Pederson of Sioux City, IA and grandchildren Jade, Hannah, Lea, Jory, and James, daughter, Brenda (Bryan) Arens of Remsen, IA and grandchildren Jessica, Sabrina, and Isabella, son, Bart (Kelly) Galles of Remsen, IA and grandchildren Brett, Emma, and Grace; siblings Robert Harpenau of LeMars, IA, Vernell Chapman of LeMars, IA, Margie (Rich) Frericks of Remsen, IA, Ray (Shirley) Harpenau of Remsen, IA, Tom (Sharon) Harpenau of Alton, IA, four sisters-in-law, Ione Harpenau of Walnut, CA, Clara (Jerry) Schreier of Dell Rapids, SD, Shirley (Jack) Bontje of Sioux Falls, SD, Lynn (Joe) Galles of Remsen, IA, brother-in-law, Ron (Connie) Galles of Remsen, IA.
Preceded in death by her parents, siblings Doris (Chet) Bergner, LeRoy (Marlene) Harpenau, Billy Joe Harpenau, Don Harpenau, three brothers-in-law Jerry Chapman, Fred and Joe Galles, two sisters-in-law, Jeanette Harpenau and Cleo Patch.
