James was born on October 29th, 1929 to John and Mary (Robinette) Boever in Remsen. He had two older sisters Ruth (Bunkers) and Shirley (Harpenau). He spent the first 10 years of his life on a farm just north of Remsen with his parents, two sisters, Grandpa Boever, and Grandpa Robinette. In 1939, the family moved to a farm one mile east of Remsen.  It was on this farm that Jim spent the rest of his life.

Jim enjoyed hunting and fishing growing up. He was educated at Remsen St. Mary’s. He participated in baseball and basketball while in high school. It was at a basketball game in 1947 where he was introduced to a young cheerleader named Jeanette Heidesch. Jim and Jeanette dated until she graduated from high school in May of 1949. One month later, on June 21st, they were married at Remsen St. Mary’s church. Jim and Jeanette moved to the farm east of Remsen where Jim grew up. His parents built a house and moved to Remsen. On August 15, 1950, they welcomed their first son, Michael John. From there, their family steadily grew over the years to include Patrick, Mary Lynn, Robert, William, Kathy, Susie, and James Jr. Their days were busy raising crops of corn, soybeans, and hay, as well as livestock of cattle, hogs, sheep, and chickens.

Jim enjoyed farming but he always worked multiple jobs along with farming. The list included hog buyer, cattle buyer, truck driver, crop hail adjuster, and a driver to car auctions. He shared his passion for fishing with his family which included many wonderful family fishing trips and countless fish tales.

Jim was very active in the Remsen community. He was a member of the Catholic Order of Foresters and until his death, was their oldest living member. He was also a member of the Lions Club. It was through the Lions Club where Jim was very active in fund raising, organizing, and coaching youth baseball programs in Remsen.
