Janet Mae Bruns, age 70, of Alton, IA died Tuesday, July 30, 2019 at Sanford in Sioux Falls, SD surrounded by family. 

Mass of Christian burial will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 3, 2019 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Alton, with the Father Daniel Greving officiating, Father John A. Vakulskas concelebrating and Deacon Dan Goebel assisting.  Burial will follow in the St. Mary’s Cemetery in Alton.  Visitation with family present will be from 4-7p.m. at the church on Friday, there will be rosary and a vigil prayer service all at 5 p.m.  Visitation will resume Saturday one hour prior to the service at the church.   Services have been entrusted to Fisch Funeral Home & Monument in Remsen, Iowa. 

Janet was born on July 19, 1949 to Elmer and Alvina Krantz in LeMars, IA. Raised in Granville, IA graduating from Spalding Catholic in 1967. She attended LeMars Beauty College and graduated in 1968.  

She married Ronald Reuter August 22, 1970 and farmed between Granville and Alton, where they raised their three children, Jeffrey, Sara, and Jenna. She unexpectedly lost her first husband in June of 1992. Through God's plan, she met, fell in love and married Dennis Bruns on May 16, 1998, where they made their home in Alton, IA. Janet worked at Northwestern College in the food service department for about 30 years before she retired.  

She was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Alton.  She was well known and loved for her cooking abilities. She always had a smile on her face and took care of everyone. She was a grandma and mom to everyone who needed or wanted it. You never left her home hungry, if you did, that was your own fault. 

Survivors include her husband Dennis, her daughters, Sara Reuter, of Alton, IA; Jenna Bruns and her husband Dan, of Orange City, IA; her stepdaughters, Cindy Steele, of Valley City, ND; and Lanise Nissen and her husband Rick, of Remsen, IA; her stepson, Jason Reimers and his wife, Wendy, of Granville,IA . Numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren, especially Dakotah, Shayla, Dylan, Haley, Keenan, Alexa, Gavin, Addison, and Grayson. Her twin brother, John Krantz, and his wife, Norma, of Granville, IA; and her sisters, MaryAnne Pottebaum and her husband Roger, of Alton, IA; Linda Loutsch and her husband Alan, of Remsen, IA; Her Godmother, Doralice Ney, and her husband Jack, of Granville, IA. Cousin Cathy Langel and her husband Denny, of Alton, IA; numerous nieces and nephews. 

She was preceded in death by her son, Jeffrey; her first husband, Ronald Reuter; her step-children, Ricky and Ellie; her parents, Elmer and Alvina Krantz and many other loved ones. 

Casket bearers will be Dakota and Dylan Steele, Jason Reimers, Eric Van Zee, Chad Odenbrett and Jeremie Fluit. 

Honorary bearers will be her grandchildren.
