John T. “Jack” Ney, age 97 of Granville, IA passed away on Sunday, November 22, 2020 at Sanford Senior Care in Sheldon, IA where he had been since December 26, 2019.
Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 a.m., Friday, Nov. 27, 2020 at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Granville, IA, with Father Daniel Greving officiating. Burial will follow in the St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery in Granville. Visitation with family present will be 1 hour before the service at the church on Friday, masks are required and social distancing guidelines will be followed. Services have been entrusted to Fisch Funeral Home & Monument in Remsen, IA.
Jack was born on March 7th, 1923 to John and Mary (Klein) Ney, in Granville, IA. He was raised in Granville and educated at St Joseph’s Catholic School.
On November 25, 1943 he married Doralice Keuster at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Granville, IA. The couple lived in Granville where Jack worked for his Dad for many years. When Jack started farming on his own, he also provided custom corn shelling, baling, and snow removal on roads and farm drives for many rural families in the Granville area. During that time Jack also worked at the Farmers Cooperative Elevator in Granville until 1977 when he lost his leg in an accident at the elevator. In later years he enjoyed mowing lawns, tilling gardens, and moving snow for many Granville residents.
Jack enjoyed spending time with his children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren, playing cards, especially 31, attending their sporting events, and camping for many years.
Survivors include his wife of 76 years, Doralice, two daughters, Marlene (Arlin) Pottebaum of Hospers, Carol Jean (Tom) Vortherms of Sioux City, and one son, Steve (Julie) Ney, of Primghar, 10 grandchildren, and 25 great grandchildren, along with 2 sisters.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Doralice’s parents; Albert Keuster and Mary Krantz-Keuster, and 10 brothers and sisters.
Casket bearers will be Ryan Pottebaum, Tristan Verduin, Jeremey Vortherms, Justin Vortherms, Ben Ney and Jake Ney.
Honorary bearers will be Jill Verduin, Gina Spiller, Tim Vortherms, Holly Laffoon and Matison Mothershead.
*****Jack and Doralice would have been married 77 years on November, 25, 2020.
*****Jack is being laid to rest today in the suit he wore the day they were married.

*****The rosary in his hand was given to him on their wedding day
*****The second rosary was a handmade gift to him by his oldest grandson, Jeremey Vortherms.
