Jonathon Learing, 27 years old, of LeMars, IA, died Friday, Nov. 6, 2009, at Mercy Medical Center in Sioux City, IA. As a result of injuries suffered in a car accident. Jon’s final gift was being an organ donor.
A Memorial service will be at 10:30 a.m., Thursday, Nov. 12, 2009, at Calvary Lutheran Church in Irene, SD, with Rev. Craig Miller officiating. Burial will follow in the Hillcrest Cemetery in Irene. Graveside military honors will be conducted by Hall-Thompson Post #193 of Irene, SD. There will be a visitation from 5 to 7 p.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 11, 2009 at Fisch Funeral home & Monument LLC in Remsen, IA. Visitation will resume from 9 a.m. until service time on Thursday at the church.
Jon was born July 8, 1982, at Viborg, SD, the son of Floyd & Ro Shiel (Johns) Learing. Jon was baptized at Calvary Lutheran Church in Irene, SD. He attended elementary school in both Fort Worth, TX & Sioux Falls, SD. Jon graduated high school in 2001 from Remsen Union Community School in Remsen, IA. Jon then entered the U.S. Air Force on June 6, 2001. Jon served over in Iraq for one year. He was honorably discharged on Mar. 11, 2004. Over the years Jon had several jobs including being a correctional officer at Woodbury County Jail. His most recent jobs were Alorica & Red Robin in Sioux City & HyVee in LeMars.
On Dec. 5, 2006 he married Jane Carlyle at San Antonio, TX. The couple made their home in LeMars, IA shortly after. Their son Evan James was born on Oct. 10, 2007, and Jon was a very proud father.
Jon’s hobbies included hunting, fishing and going to the shooting range, but his favorite past time was just being a good husband, father, son, brother and friend.
Survivors include: His wife Jane and son Evan Learing of LeMars; His parents Floyd & Ro Shiel Learing of Remsen, IA. One sister, Alicia Learing and her fiancé Matt Peters of Fort Worth, TX; Two brothers, Blaine Learing & his special friend Kelsey Weiler of LeMars, Wyatt Learing at home in Remsen; Two nieces, Mayci & Makenna Learing; His paternal grandmother, Olive Learing of Irene, SD; His maternal grandmother, Carol Dahlquist & her husband Harris of Hawarden, IA; His father-in-law, Doug Carlyle & his wife Peggy of Tarpley, TX; His mother-in-law, Donna Fulton & her husband Jim of Austin, TX; Two sisters-in-law, Megan & Sarah Carlyle of Tarpley, TX; Numerous uncles, aunts, cousins & friends.
