Karla Robinet, age 77 of Hospers, IA, passed away unexpectedly Monday, Sept. 8, 2025, at Orange City Area Health System in Orange City, IA.
Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 a.m. Monday, Sept. 15, 2025, at St. Anthony Catholic Church in Hospers, IA. Burial will follow at the St. Anthony cemetery. Visitation will be 3-5 p.m. Sunday Sept. 14, 2025, there will be a rosary and vigil prayer service at 5 p.m., at the church. Visitation will resume 9:30-10:15 a.m. Monday at the church. Karla was born Dec. 18, 1947 in Bismarck, North Dakota, the daughter of Chris & Elizabeth (Wachal) Koch. She was raised on a farm near Bismarck, ND. She attended St. Anne’s Catholic Grade School and graduated from St. Mary’s Central High School in 1965. In 1969 she graduated from St. Benedict’s College in St. Joseph, MN. Karla taught elementary school in Hastings, MN.
Karla was united in marriage to Steve Robinet on July 5, 1969 in Bismarck, ND. The couple lived in New Egypt, New Jersey during Steve’s tour of duty in the US Air Force. In 1973 they moved to rural Hospers, IA. Karla taught Nursery & Preschool classes at Children’s World in Sheldon, IA for 11 years. She joined the staff of the Sheldon Public Library as Children’s Librarian in 1992. After retirement she went back to work part time at the Hospers Library.
Karla enjoyed visiting and spending time with her children, grandchildren, and traveling with her husband. She also enjoyed reading, gardening, biking and baking (She was famous for her snack mix). Her favorite hobby was collecting various coffee cups.
Karla was a member of St. Anthony Catholic Church & the church board, church guild, American Legion Auxiliary, Scripture Sharing, Christian Mothers, DCCW, Relay for Life, American Cancer Society and Book Discussion Group.
Survivors include her husband, Steve of Hospers, IA; her children, Eric (Angela) Robinet of St. Peters, MO, Jennifer (Jamie) Smith of Mt. Vernon, IL, Jason Robinet of Golden, CO; 3 grandchildren, Lauryn, Connor & Brooklyn Robinet; 1 brother, Larry (Julie) Koch of Chanhassen, MN; 3 sisters, Marlys (Jim) Dickmeyer of Princeton, MN, Lela (Ray) Grim of Valley City, ND, Connie (Jon) Rutten of Osakis, MN; 2 brothers-in-law, Deacon Dale Tigges of Sioux City, IA, Jim (Cathy) Robinet of Vermillion, SD.
She was preceded in death by her parents; parents-in-law, Peter & Margaret Robinet; 1 sister-in-law, Anita Tigges.
Casket bearers will be Shawn Grim, Steven Grim, Scott Grim, Steve Larsen, Dan Dickmeyer, Johnny Koch.
