Obituary

Kathryn Ann Wolf, 69, of Ithaca, New York, passed away May 22, 2026 after a courageous battle with esophageal cancer. She was surrounded by the love of family.

Memorial Mass will be 10:30 a.m., Friday, July 3, 2026 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Remsen, IA with Rev. Timothy Pick officiating. Burial will follow at St. Mary's Cemetery in Remsen. Visitation with family present will be 9:30-10:15 a.m. at Fisch Funeral Home & Monument in Remsen, IA. Service will be live-streamed. 

Born in LeMars, Iowa, to Lloyd and Phyllis Wolf, she was raised on the family cattle farm, where she developed a strong work ethic and deep family values. She attended Remsen St. Mary’s School for 12 years. Kathryn lived a life defined by creativity, intellect, and deep connection to the people and places she cherished.

Kathryn earned her undergraduate degree in horticulture from Iowa State University in 1980 and went on to receive a master’s degree in Landscape Architecture from University of Michigan in 1982. Kathryn was partner in the firm Trowbridge Wolf Michaels Landscape Architects. During part of her career she lectured at Cornell University in the Landscape Architecture program. She took immense pride in her work, including contributions to projects such as the new Mario Cuomo Bridge and the Buffalo Waterfront. Other notable projects were her work with the Chicago Botanical Gardens and her projects at Niagara Falls.

Kathryn was preceded in death by her parents and her nephew, Louis Bunkers. She is lovingly remembered by her partner, Hermann J. Wiemer; her brothers, David and wife Santina, Bill and wife Diana; her sister, Jane Bunkers and husband Paul; seven nephews and nieces; and ten great-nephews and great-nieces.

Kathryn found joy in spending time with family and friends and approached life with endless curiosity. A voracious reader and lifelong learner, she embraced opportunities to grow and discover. She and Hermann shared a love of travel and enjoyed exploring the world together.

Kathryn will be remembered for her warmth, intelligence, creativity, and the lasting impact she made on the people who knew and loved her.
