Larry Joseph Alesch, 74, of Marcus, Iowa, passed away with his family at his side on May 28, 2026.
Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 a.m. Monday June 1, 2026 at Holy Name Catholic Church in Marcus with Father Timothy Pick officiating and Deacon Jerry Bertrand assisting. Burial will follow in Holy Name Catholic Cemetery in Marcus with graveside military rights provided by American Legion FI Goodburn Post 517. Visitation with family present will be 4 to 6 p.m. on Sunday with a vigil prayer service at 6 p.m., at the Church. Visitation will resume one hour prior to the service Monday at the church. Services have been entrusted to Fisch Funeral Home & Monument in Marcus, IA. Expressions of sympathy may be directed through www.fischfh.com
Larry was born on November 5, 1951 to Loren Joseph Alesch and Anna Josephine (Slota) Alesch in Le Mars, Iowa. He was raised and educated in Marcus, Iowa graduating from Marcus high school in 1970. After high school he joined the National Guard and began working at Wilson Foods in Cherokee.
On October 4, 1974 he married Beverly Brandt in Primghar, Iowa. The family made their home in Marcus, Iowa where Larry was an active member of the Holy Name Catholic Church. He was a very faithful caretaker of his beloved church for many years. He was also a member of the American Legion FI Goodburn Post 517 and served as a Post Adjutant.
Larry knew what he liked, he enjoyed deer hunting, a good rabbit feed, and hog roasts, especially two at a time. He also enjoyed backgrounding cattle in his free time. He was also known for playing Santa Clause and teaching his grandsons "chicky baby”. Larry also believed that it was always 5 O’ clock somewhere.
Left to cherish his memory, his wife of 51 years, Bev, their son Gerry and his wife Lisa Alesch of Marcus and their sons Owen and Wyatt.
He is also survived by brothers, Dave (Arlene) Alesch, Doug (Sheila) Alesch, all of Marcus; one sister, Mary Beth (Denny) Horstman of Arlington Heights, IL; brother-in-law, Gerry Brandt; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Loren Alesch and Anna Alesch, in-laws, Ernest and Angela Brandt and sister-in-law, Karen Brandt.
Casket bearers will be Owen Alesch, Wyatt Alesch, Chad Alesch, Greg Brandt, Greg Galles and Marty Irwin.
