Larry B. Beckmann, 71 years old, of Remsen, IA died Tuesday, June 25, 2013 at his home near Remsen, IA.
Funeral service will be at 10 a.m., Friday, June 28, 2013, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Remsen with Rev. William McCarthy officiating. Burial will be in the St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery in Remsen. Visitation will be anytime after 4 p.m. on Thursday, June 27, 2013. There will be a parish rosary at 5 p.m. and a vigil prayer service at 7 p.m. followed by a Knights of Columbus rosary and 4th degree chalice presentation all at Fisch Funeral Home & Monument in Remsen.
Larry was born on Jan. 31, 1942, at LeMars, IA the son of Frank and Verina (Wiederholt) Beckmann. He was raised in the Remsen area and graduated from St. Mary’s High School in 1960. He worked at Sand’s Seed Service and then started farming.e then farmed
On Sept. 2, 1963, he married Karen Zeig at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Remsen. On May 5, 1964 a tornado did extensive damage to their farm, but they rebuilt. He still farmed his own ground and worked full-time at Quality Truck Wash & Service in LeMars until getting sick 5 weeks ago. He also worked for Dennis Gralapp Ent., Sheldon Sale Barn and raised reputation feeder pigs.
Larry was a member of the St. Mary’s Catholic Church and 4th Degree Knights of Columbus. He enjoyed spending time with his family especially the annual family vacation to Triggs Resort in Okoboji. He also enjoyed time with friends, boating and motorcycling.
Survivors include: his wife Karen of Remsen, his three children, Dan (Debbie) Beckmann of Omaha, NE, Michelle (Russ) Schroeder of Remsen, Jaime (Matt) Homan of Remsen; 12 grandchildren, Kassie, Tyler and Abbie Beckmann, Cameron, Danielle, Shelby, Noah, Claire and Elijah Schroeder, Devin, Cole and Reece Homan; one brother, Dale (Betty) Beckmann of Remsen; ona sister, Mary (Buzz) Vermeer of Wahpeton, IA; one brother-in-law, Larry (Linda) George of Shenandoah, IA; one sister-in-law, Kim (Ray) Wilkens of LeMars, IA.
Preceded in death by, his parents, one sister, Janice George, one nephew and one niece.
Casketbearers will be Cameron Schroeder, Kassie and Tyler Beckmann, Danielle and Shelby Schroeder, Abbie Beckmann, Noah Schroeder.
Honorary Bearers will be members of the Knights of Columbus.
