Leonard Peter Heying, age 81, of Granville, passed away peacefully surrounded by family on Tuesday, May 13, 2025.
Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday, May 19, 2025, at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Granville, Iowa with Father Dan Greving officiating. Burial will follow at the St. Joseph Cemetery in Granville. Graveside military honors will be conducted by the Granville Veterans. Visitation with family present will be 4-6 pm Sunday with a vigil prayer service at 6 p.m., all at the St. Joseph Catholic Church in Granville. Visitation will resume with family present one hour prior to the service on Monday. Services have been entrusted to Fisch Funeral Home & Monument in Remsen.
Leonard Peter Heying was born at home during a snow storm, in Granville on November 7, 1943. He was born the fifth child of Aloysius and Marie (Kuennen) Heying . He graduated from St. Joseph High School in 1961. He then entered the National Guard. After his service he worked construction for a short time before returning to the Heying Family farm, where he devoted the rest of his years to the land.
Leonard was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church of Granville.
Leonard enjoyed winning at the Casino, watching NBA Basketball and the Iowa Hawkeyes. He also liked playing cards and sharing stories, (usually with his dry sense of humor). He will be remembered as a good friend, brother and a wonderful uncle.
Survivors include; sister Germaine (Joe) Konz of Granville, IA; brothers, Ken (Dianne) Heying of Sioux City, IA, and Steve (Patti) Heying of San Antonio, TX., sister-in-law Mary Ellen Heying(Eugene) of Granville, IA, and 24 nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Al and Marie Heying, brotherEugene Heying, sister Arlene Vorthermsand brother-in-law Erwin Vortherms.
Casket Bearers will be Dean Heying, Brad Konz, Randy Heying, Dan Konz, Brady Heying, Dave Heying, and Dennis Vortherms.
Honorary Bearers will be “The Bowling Team” Loren Klein, Harvey Grady, Bill Penning, Kevin Holzman and Roger Goergen.
Special Thank You to Nikki Heying for her years devoted to Lenny as his Personal Assistant and nurse. Your devotion and friendship made a difference in Lenny’s life that we are all eternally grateful for.
