Lorne George Nilles, 76, of Remsen, Iowa passed away Friday, June 23, 2017 at his home near Remsen.

Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 am on Tuesday, June 27, 2017 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Remsen with Rev. William McCarthy officiating and Deacon Rick Roder assisting. Burial will be in St. Mary’s Cemetery in Remsen. Visitation with family present will be 4-7pm Monday. There will be a parish rosary and vigil prayer service at 5 p.m., with a Catholic Order of Forester and Knights of Columbus Rosary and Knights of Columbus 4th degree chalice presentation at 7 p.m. all at Fisch Funeral Home & Monument in Remsen. Services have been entrusted to the Fisch Funeral Home & Monument of Remsen.

Lorne was born on March 11, 1941, at the Nilles farm south of Remsen to Peter and Olga (Krieps) Nilles at Remsen, Iowa. Lorne was raised on the family farm near Remsen. He attended St. Mary’s High School and graduated in 1959. He then entered the US Army and served from 1963 until he was honorably discharged in 1965. He married Florence Thorman on Aug. 3, 1968. The couple made their home and farmed south of Remsen.

Lorne was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church, 4th Degree Knights of Columbus, Catholic Order of Foresters and VFW. He enjoyed woodworking, farming, fishing and volunteer work with Monasteries in Sioux City, St. Louis, Birmingham and two in Puerto Rico.

Survivors include his wife Florence of Remsen; his children, Patty Dau of Omaha, NE, Dan (Tammy) Nilles of Remsen, Becky Nilles of Springdale, AR; 7 grandchildren, Grant and Lauren Dau, Lexe, Delanee and Derek Nilles, Pierce and Nate Wesselink; 1 great-grandchild, Cameron Wesselink; His brother and sisters, Dennis (Beverly) Nilles of Burnsville, IA, Clarice Bainbridge of LeMars, IA,Peter “Bud” (Judy) Nilles of LeMars, IA, Stanley (Shirley) Nilles of Kingsley, IA, Mark (Jean) Nilles of LeMars, IA, Tony (Julie) Nilles of Jackson, MN; numerous nieces, nephews and godchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, grandson, Randy Nilles, his siblings, George (Phyllis) Nilles, Betty Nilles, Marcela (Norbert) Hansen, Ruth (Gerald) Grage, brother-in-law, Donald Bainbridge, his in-laws, Leonard and Margaret Thorman.

Casket bearers will be, Ric Hansen, Rod Gengler, Arlie Pick, Jerry Harpenau, Donald Marx and Bart Galles.

Honorary bearers will be members of the Knights of Columbus and Catholic Order of Foresters.
