Lorraine Hatz, 97 years old, of Alton, IA, died Sunday, Jan. 8, 2017, At Prairie Ridge Care Center in Orange City, IA.
Funeral service will be at 10:30 a.m., Thursday, Jan. 12, 2017, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Alton with Rev. Terry Roder officiating. Burial will be in the St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery in Alton. Visitation with family present will be from 9 a.m. until service time on Thursday at the church. Services have been entrusted to Fisch Funeral Home & Monument in Remsen.
Lorraine was born July 31, 1919 at LeMars, IA, the daughter of Peter and Ida (Ley) Thoma . She was raised and educated in LeMars. She then worked at Albertson Company in Sioux City for 10 years.
On June 7, 1948 she married Vernon Hatz at LeMars, IA. The couple eventually owned and operated their own grocery store/locker called Hatz Frozen Foods in Alton. They sold the business and moved to LeMars in 1968. She then worked in the Plymouth County Treasures Office in LeMars. Vernon died Feb. 2, 2013.
Lorraine was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church, St. Mary’s Rosary Society and Catholic Daughters of America.
Survivors include: her daughter, Sue (Bob) Albers of Alton, IA; four grandsons, Troy (Sandy) Albers of Alton, Chris (Amy) Albers of Sioux Falls, SD, Jason (Jody) Albers of Alton, Tom (Leah) Albers of Alton; 9 great-grandchildren and one expected soon.
Preceded by: her parents, one brother Fritz (Norma) Thoma, two sisters, Helen Dungey and her twin sister Delores Thoma, three sisters-in-law, Mildred as an infant, Margaret (Jack) Zimmerman and Kathleen Hatz.
Casket Bearers will be Troy, Chris, Jason, Tom, Talon and Greg Albers.
