Lyle Michael Schuetz, age 79, of Remsen, died unexpectedly, Saturday June 27th at Ascension Via Christi St. Francis Hospital Wichita, Kansas while visiting his Kansas family and his cattle.

Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, July 2, 2026 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Remsen, IA with Fr. Timothy Pick officiating. Burial will follow the lunch at the St. Mary’s Cemetery in Alton, IA. Military honors will be conducted by VFW Post 3328, American Legion Post 220 of Remsen and Floyd American Legion Post 200 of Alton, IA. Visitation with family present will be 4 - 7 p.m. on Wednesday. There will be a parish rosary and vigil prayer service at 5 p.m. all at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Remsen. Visitation will resume 9:30-10:15 a.m. on Thursday at the church. Lyle was born November 10th, 1946, in LeMars, IA. The son of Ralph A Schuetz and Rita P. (Kass) Schuetz. Lyle was raised in rural Remsen and received his education at Remsen St. Mary’s Catholic Schools. Prior to graduating high school, Lyle entered the Army National Guard where he completed eight weeks of advanced infantry training. He was honorably discharged in 1968.

He married Janice P (Rolling) Schuetz on July 27th, 1968, at St. Catherine Catholic Church in Oyens. The couple made their home on a farm near Alton. After her passing in 2009, he found love again and remarried in August of 2019 to Deb Niehus and resided in Remsen.

Lyle farmed with his father Ralph until his passing in 1981, after his passing Lyle proceeded to farm with his brother and sons.

Lyle had a gift for watching things grow. He measured seasons not by calendars, but by first sprouts, swelling buds, and the hum of life in the fields. In his garden, he found quiet purpose—hands in the soil, eyes on the horizon—trusting sun, rain, and patience to do their steady work. He greeted each harvest like an old friend returning home. Crops taught him faith; livestock taught him stewardship. He rose early, watched skies, and listened to the small sounds that said all is well. He respected the rhythm of the land and the dignity of honest work, believing that life repays attention with abundance.

Lyle’s greatest joy was found in his cattle—each sunrise in the pasture, every new calf on the ground, and the quiet rhythm of working livestock that shaped his life with purpose and peace.

More than anything, Lyle loved to watch his family grow. He cheered for first steps and graduations, gathered everyone close at harvest tables, and told stories that stitched generations together. He shared what he knew: how to plant deep, water well, and stand firm when storms roll in. His legacy is not only in what he raised from the ground, but in the kindness, grit, and gentleness he cultivated in the people he loved.

Lyle was a member of the Soil Conservation, Church Board, School Board and was a 25-gallon Blood Donor. He attended the sale barn regularly and traveled often.

Survivors include his second wife, Deb Niehus-Schuetz of Remsen, IA; daughter, Kay (Jason) Huff of Fremont, NE; son, Mike (Gina) Schuetz of Hospers, IA; son, Dan (Sonia) Schuetz of Remsen, IA; son, Kenneth (Melissa) Schuetz of Alton, IA; daughter, Jean (Jared) Block of Alton, IA; stepdaughter, Beth (Corey) Gergen of Granville, IA; stepson, Mike Niehus (Holly Camerer) of Marcus, IA; stepdaughter, Lori (Jeff) Spenner of Remsen, IA; 21 grandchildren; 7 great-grandchildren and 1 due in September; sisters-in-law, Beth Schuetz and her friend Jerry Braun of Remsen, IA, Marilyn (Marvin) Maly of Onawa, IA, Marie Benedix of Correctionville, IA; brothers-in-law, Russell (Pam) Rolling of Oyens, IA, Jim Rolling of Glenwood,, IA, Kirk Rolling of Le Mars, IA, Glenn Rolling of Le Mars, IA, Mark Sudtelgte of Remsen, IA.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife, Janice (Rolling) Schuetz; his grandson, Bryan Huff; his sister Darlene Schuetz; his brother, Rich Schuetz; sisters-in-law, JoAnn Sudtelgte, LeAnn Rolling and Julie Rolling; brothers-in-law, Larry Rolling, Robert Rolling, Robert Benedix.

Casket Bearers will be Jason Huff, Mike Schuetz, Dan Schuetz, Ken Schuetz, Jared Block, Corey Gergen, Mike Niehus and Jeff Spenner.
