Magdalen “Myrt” Weiler, 93 years old, of LeMars, IA entered eternal rest Saturday, Sept. 5, 2015, at Good Samaritan Society in LeMars, IA.
Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:30 a.m., Friday, Sept. 11, 2015, at St. Catherine Catholic Church in Oyens with Rev. William McCarthy officiating. Burial will be in the St. Catherine Catholic Cemetery in Oyens. Visitation will be anytime after 4 p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 10, 2015. There will be a parish rosary at 5 p.m. and a vigil prayer service at 7 p.m. at Fisch Funeral Home & Monument in Remsen.
Myrt was born Nov. 11, 1921 on a farm near Oyens, IA to Michael and Elizabeth (Arens) Gengler. She was raised and lived within one mile of that home until the past 5 years when she moved to Good Samaritan Society in LeMars. After graduation from Remsen St. Mary’s High School in 1939, Myrt worked for the WesTel Telephone Company.
Myrt married Duane Weiler on June 19, 1946 at St. Catherine Catholic Church in Oyens, IA. They resided on the family farm near Oyens. They were 4-H leaders for many years. Dewey passed away Mar. 24, 1998.
Myrt was a member of St. Catherine Catholic Church and acive in the church choir and St. Catherine Guild. She was also a member of the community choir, Plymouth County Museum, Floyd Valley Garden Club and VFW Auxiliary.
Survivors include: her children, Connie (Steve) Davis of Fayetteville, GA, Cary (Jan) Weiler of Escondido, CA, Sharon (Wayne) Conrad of Estoria, FL, Elizabeth (Jim) Gorczynski of LeMars, IA, Tony (Sharon) Weiler of Winterset, IA, Michael (Ann) Weiler Olathe, KS and John (Jill) Weiler of Des Moines, IA; 19 grandchildren, Teresa, Anita, Erin, Kelly, Megan, Hannah, Jamie, Benjamin, Adam, Kara, Joshua, Maria, Jonathan, Christopher, Morgan, Austin, Ethan, Garrett and Emma Joy. Her legacy continues with her 12 great grandchildren, Addie, Jack, Amelia, Isaac, Lillian, Nora, Ava, Greta, Gatlan, Brandon, Josette and baby girl Gorczynski. She will be missed by her sister-in-law, Ellen Hatz of Remsen and her many nieces and nephews.
Preceded in death by her parents; one son, Philip, one daughter, Mary Ellen, her brother, Al F. (Shirley) Gengler, and nephew, Melvin Gengler.
Casket Bearers will be: Cary, Tony, Mike and John Weiler, Steve Davis and Jim Gorczynski.
Honorary Bearers will be her grandchildren.
