Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 3, 2022, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Remsen, IA with Father Timothy Pick officiating and Deacon Doug Heeren assisting. Burial will follow at St. Mary’s Cemetery in Remsen, IA. Visitation with family present will be 4-7 p.m. on Friday, there will be a parish rosary and vigil prayer service at 5:30 p.m. all at Fisch Funeral Home & Monument in Remsen. Visitation will resume at 9:30 a.m. on Saturday at the funeral home. Services have been entrusted to the Fisch Funeral Home & Monument in Remsen.
Peg was born Oct. 12, 1932 in Sioux City, IA, to Floyd and Ione (Benton) Coulson. She was raised and educated in Sioux City, she was a graduate of Central High School in Sioux City, upon graduating Peg was employed at First National Bank in Sioux City.
Peg was united in marriage to Ronald Niehus on May 30th 1956, at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church in Sioux City, IA. The couple made their home on a farm south of Remsen where they raised 3 children. After Ronald passed away Jan. 30, 2016 Peg moved to Bavarian Meadows Assisted Living in Remsen.
She was a member of the St.Mary’s Catholic Church, she belonged to Christian Mothers and Catholic Daughters.
She enjoyed spending time with her family especially her grandchildren, great grandchildren and her first great-great grandchild. She also enjoyed gardening, baking, and socializing with friends.
One of her greatest joys was baking sugar cookies and pies for her grandchildren.
She is survived by one son Steve (Carolyn) Niehus; two daughters, Kim Niehus Nacke all of Remsen, Karen Eggers (Shane Schuman) of Reinbeck IA; six grandchildren, Michael (Katy) Niehus of Polk City IA, Carrie (Aaron) Weiler of Elk Horn, NE, Brian (Toni) Niehus of LeMars, IA, Austyn Smith & special friend (Ashley Kraus) of Cedar Falls, IA, Abby Smith and Madisyn Eggers of Reinbeck, IA; nine great grandchildren, Harper, Henley and Hadley Niehus, Braydon Wurth (Tyra Nance), Brycen, Bayla Weiler, Braya, Braxton, and Briggs Niehus; one great great grandchild Aurora Wurth; two brothers Tom (Darlene) Coulson of Sioux City, IA, and Bill (Sharon) Coulson of Tucker, GA; one sister Kathy (Bob) Deignan of Sioux City, IA; three sisters-in-law, Donna Coulson of Sioux City, IA, Esther Schmitz of Carroll, IA, and Carole Voss of Cherokee, IA; numerous nieces and nephews.
Preceded in death by her husband Ronald; her parents; her father and mother-in-law Joe and Rose Niehus; six siblings, James Coulson, Coke (Bud) Dickson, Donald Coulson, Patty (Dean) Whalen, Mary Walker and Jan Beavers; brothers-in-law, Joe Schmitz and Randy Voss; three nephews and three nieces.
Casket bearers will be Michael and Brian Niehus, Austyn Smith, Aaron Weiler, Braydon Wurth, and Brycen Weiler.
Honorary bearers will be Katy Niehus, Carrie Weiler, Toni Niehus, Abby Smith, and Madisyn Eggers, Tyra Nance and her great grandchildren.
