Mark Bernard Plathe, age 90, of Granville, IA, passed away Wednesday, Sept. 3, 2025 at Prairie Ridge Care Center in Orange City, IA.
Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday, Sept. 8, 2025, at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Granville, Iowa with Father Dan Greving officiating, Msgr. Kenneth Seifried concelebrating and Deacon Dan Goebel assisting. Burial will follow at the St. Joseph Cemetery in Granville. Graveside military honors will be conducted by the Granville Veterans. Visitation with family present will be 4-7 pm Sunday with a rosary and vigil prayer service at 5 p.m., all at the St. Joseph Catholic Church in Granville. Visitation will resume one hour prior to the service on Monday. Services have been entrusted to Fisch Funeral Home & Monument in Remsen. Online condolences may be sent to www.fischfh.com
Mark was born May 4, 1935 in Le Mars, IA, the son of Nick & Ang (Herrig) Plathe. He was raised near Granville, IA and attended St. Joseph Catholic School. After graduating he enlisted in the US Army on Oct. 18, 1954 until his honorable discharge on Sept. 27, 1956 serving in Okinawa, Japan.
On April 15, 1958 he married JoAnn “Tudy” Schuster at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Granville. The couple made their home in Granville until 1961 when they moved to the family farm south of Granville to farm and raise their three children. They moved back into Granville in 2001. JoAnn “Tudy” passed away April 13, 2013.
Mark was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church and the Granville Veterans.
Survivors include his three children, Randy (Jeri) Plathe of Granville,IA, Tim (Mary) Plathe of Granville, IA, LeAnn (Leon) Kleinhesselink of Alton, IA; 10 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; his twin brother, Maro (Rosalie) Plathe of Granville, IA; sisters-in-law, Joyce Plathe of Alton, IA and Marlene Kuiper of Omaha, NE.
He was preceded by his parents; his wife JoAnn “Tudy”; sister, Bertille (Roman Budden) (Nick) Gergen; brother, Virgil Plathe; parents in-law, Joe (Helen) Schuster, Johnny Niichel; In-laws, Brian Kuiper, Hilary & Bobbie Schuster in infancy, Orville & Norma Schuster; nephews, Robbie Plathe and Jim Budden; niece, Christy Robison.
Casket bearers will be Cordell Kleinhesselink, Jesse Kleinhesselink, Paul Plathe, Justin Plathe, Jordan Plathe, Jared Plathe.
Honorary bearers will be Jennifer Schwab, Lacey Hadden, Paula Battista, Jamie Bomgaars.
