Marlyn Harold Richter, age 83 of Granville, IA passed away Thursday, Nov. 3, 2022 at Sanford Senior Care in Sheldon, IA.
 

Funeral service will be 10:30 a.m., Tuesday, Nov. 8, 2022 at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Granville, IA, with Father Daniel Greving officiating. Burial will be in the St. John Lutheran Cemetery in Germantown, IA.  Visitation with family present will be Monday from 4-6 p.m., there will be a rosary and 5 p.m. all at the church in Granville.  Visitation will resume 1 hour prior to the funeral on Tuesday at the church.  Services have been entrusted to Fisch Funeral Home & Monument in Remsen, IA.                        

Marlyn, the son of Edwin and Lavina (Ewoldt) Richter was born on August 29, 1939. He received his education at St. John Lutheran School in Germantown, Iowa and graduated from Paullina High School in 1957. Marlyn was baptized and confirmed at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Germantown.

He was united in marriage to Norma Jean Tewes on February 23, 1964 in Worthington, Minnesota. They lived for two years in Primghar and then made their home on the family farm in September of 1966, where Marlyn was raised and proudly labored the land. They raised a variety of livestock and contributed to feeding many throughout his lifetime.  Two children were born to this union, one son, Lanny and one daughter, Christine. 

Marlyn passed on his love of the land and work ethic to his children and grandchildren and was very proud of all that he worked for. His meticulous nature made projects take longer than most, but the satisfaction of a job well done was his to then own. Marlyn drove truck for many businesses throughout his lifetime and enjoyed helping the neighbor harvest for many years.

Marlyn was one of the most genuine people you would ever meet and a man of integrity. He enjoyed country music, dancing, bowling, ping pong, drinking coffee, and had a huge heart for a variety of animals. He was very proud of his children & grandchildren and their many accomplishments. His sense of humor was evident in many ways throughout his lifetime.

Left to cherish his memory are his son; Lanny Richter of Granville, IA and daughter & son-in-law; Chris & Christine Hunt of Granville, IA. Seven grandchildren Ben Zeutenhorst of Granville, IA; Samantha Zeutenhorst of Sioux City, IA; Sydney Zeutenhorst of Granville, IA; Justin (Heidi) Hunt of Granville, IA; Katie (Matt) Zavadil of Volin, SD; Lucas (Rebekah) Hunt of Primghar, IA; and Mitchell Hunt of Granville, IA; six great grandchildren; twin sister, Marlys Richter of Hospers, IA; and many nieces & nephews, relatives, and friends.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Norma Jean, on February 29, 1984. He was also preceded by his parents; brothers Virgil and Merlyn Richter.

Casket bearers will be Ben Zeutenhorst, Justin Hunt, Lucas Hunt, Mitchell Hunt, Steve Hunt and Chris Hunt.
