Mary Ann Cecelia Hansen, 86 years old, of Remsen, IA, passed away Thursday, Dec. 27, 2012 at Remsen, IA surrounded by her family.
Funeral service will be at 10:30 a.m., Monday, Dec. 31, 2012, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Remsen with Rev. William McCarthy officiating. Burial will be in the St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery in Remsen. Visitation will be anytime after 4 p.m. on Sunday, Dec. 30, 2012. There will be a parish rosary at 5 p.m. and a vigil prayer service at 7 p.m. all at Fisch Funeral Home & Monument in Remsen.
Mary Ann was born Feb. 14, 1926, at Remsen, IA, the daughter of Anthony & Elizabeth (Dieckmann) Schiltz. MaryAnn was raised in Remsen and graduated from St. Mary’s High School in 1943. She married Joseph Plathe on October 15, 1945. The couple had four children, Linda, Jean, Marilyn & David. Joseph died from and automobile accident July 29, 1953.
She married Leonard Hansen July 10, 1956. The couple had three children, Ricky, Judy & Randy. Leonard died Aug. 31, 1999. She spent most of her working career as a cook at Remsen Union High School until her retirement.
Mary Ann was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church, church guild & past member of the Catholic Order of Foresters. She enjoyed baking, cooking, rug looming, flower gardening, quilting and making german potato salad for Oktoberfest.
Survivors include; five children, Linda (George) Ellis of West Fargo, ND, Jean Ahlers of Sioux City, IA, David (Mary) Plathe of Remsen, IA, Judy (Troy) Fortsch of Griswald, IA, Randy (Tammy) Hansen of Las Vegas, NV; 17 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren.
Preceded by; her parents, one daughter, Marilyn Plathe, one son, Ricky Hansen, three brothers, Elmer, Richard & Donald Schiltz, three sisters, Sally Delperdang, Irene Barthole & Emily Mae Ahlers.
Casket Bearers will be: her grandchildren.
