Mary Ellen Ruden, 77 years old, of Remsen, IA passed away Tuesday, July 10, 2018 at Orange City Area Health System Hospital in Orange City, IA.
Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 a.m. Friday, July 13, 2018 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Remsen with Father William McCarthy officiating. Burial will follow at St. Mary’s Cemetery in Remsen, IA. Visitation with family present will be 4-7 p.m. Thursday. There will be a parish rosary and vigil prayer service all at 5 p.m. at Fisch Funeral Home & Monument in Remsen. Visitation will resume 1 hour prior to the service on Friday at the funeral home. Mary was born on March 1, 1941 at LeMars, IA, she was an only child to Gilbert and Armella (Bunkers) Loesche. She was raised and educated in Remsen and graduated from St. Mary’s High School in 1959. She attended Briar Cliff for one year. Mary started working for Dr. Carl Anderson in 1960 as a dental assistant. She worked for him for three years in Sioux City.
On July 14, 1962, she married her high school sweetheart Larry J. Ruden at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Remsen, IA. Mary Ellen worked at various jobs including Majeres Foodtown, Remsen Apparel, Happy Siesta, Staples and most recently Bavarian Meadows. She enjoyed doing what she loved most: cooking, reading and embroidering. She worked until she was 75, but you would find her at home making her famous pies and cookies for family and friends.
Mary was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church and church guild. She enjoyed going to her 17 grandchildren’s activities. Mary also enjoyed her many trips to the Black Hills. Larry and Mary Ellen would have celebrated their 56th year of marriage on July 14, 2018.
Survivors include: her husband, Larry J. Ruden of Remsen; Son, Scott (Caryn) Ruden of Remsen, and their children Justin, Brandon, Wesley and Nicholas; Son, Steve (Shelley) Ruden of Remsen, and their children Brittany, Stephanie, Kelsey and Zachary; Daughter, Stacey (Rick) Schroeder of LeMars, IA and their children Owen and Gracie; Daughter, Susan (Chad) Tentinger of Remsen, and their children Mikayla, Abigail, Carter, Tessa and Ian; Son, John (Valerie) Ruden of Omaha, NE and their children Eli and Calvin.
She was preceded in death by her parents Gilbert and Armella Loesche, in-laws John and Veronica Ruden and Sylvester Ruden.
Casket Bearers will be Justin, Brandon, Wesley, Nicholas and Zachary Ruden, Travis Schroeder, Colby Felts, Kurt Kellen, and Dereck Hayes.
