Mary Kane, age 91 of Remsen, IA passed away Tuesday, Feb. 17, 2026 at Floyd Valley Healthcare in Le Mars, IA.
Mass of Christian burial will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday, Feb. 20, 2026 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Remsen, IA with Rev. Timothy Pick officiating and Deacon Doug Heeren assisting. burial will follow at St. Mary's Cemetery in Remsen. Visitation with family present will be 4-6:30 p.m. on Thursday, there will be a rosary and vigil prayer service at 5 p.m. all at Fisch Funeral Home & Monument in Remsen. Visitation will resume from 9:30 to 10:15 a.m. Friday at the funeral home. Services have been entrusted to Fisch Funeral Home & Monument in Remsen, www.fischfh.com
Mary was born Dec. 22, 1934 in Emmetsburg, IA, the daughter of William & Agatha (Hand) Kerwick. She was raised and educated in Emmetsburg and graduated from Emmetsburg High School.
On June 3, 1950 she married Joe Kane at St. Thomas Church in Emmetsburg. They resided in Wayne, NE until August of 1960 when they moved to Remsen, IA. Mary attended Westmar College, graduating in Aug. of 1963 and started teaching at Remsen-Union Community Schools until the early 90's when she retired. Joe died May 4, 2023.
She was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church and church guild. She was a past member of the Remsen Library Board. She enjoyed playing cards, golf, gardening, bird and squirrel watching, golf league, gathering with friends, eating out and she especially enjoyed traveling with Joe. She loved spending time with her family, close friends, being a grandma and great-grandma.
Survivors include her daughter-in-law, Laurie Kane of Elkhorn, NE; grandson, Justin Kane of Omaha, NE; two granddaughters, Kaylee (Austen) Newcomer of Omaha, NE, Allison Kane of Omaha, NE; great-grandchildren, Cole & Nora Newcomer.
Mary was preceded by her parents; her son David Kane; her husband Joe; her three brothers, Michael, William and Joseph Kerwick.
Casket bearers will be Regi Arens, Ryan Arens, Carl Staab, Mike Tritz, Austen Newcomer, Justin Kane, Fran Galles.
