Matthew Conrad Gerrietts, 17 years old, of Remsen, IA passed away suddenly Saturday, Nov. 10, 2012, as a result of injuries suffered in an automobile accident near Remsen.
Funeral service will be at 10:30 a.m., Friday, Nov. 16, 2012, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Remsen with Rev. William McCarthy officiating. Burial will be in the parish cemetery. Visitation will be anytime after 4 p.m. on Thursday, Nov.15, 2012. There will be a parish rosary at 5 p.m. and a vigil prayer service at 7:00 p.m. all at the St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Remsen. Service have been entrusted to Fisch Funeral Home & Monument in Remsen.
Matthew was born on May 25, 1995, the son of Todd and Laurie (Vaske) Gerrietts. He was raised in Remsen and attended St. Mary’s Catholic School where he was a senior and on the football team and track. Matthew was a paper carrier for the Sioux City Journal, worked at Majeres Foodtown in Remsen and also did DE tasseling every summer. He had just recently joined the U.S. Marine Corp.
Matthew was a member of the St. Mary’s Catholic Church and was also an alter server. He loved football, the Hawkeyes and the 49ers. He looked forward to being a Marine. He was president of the Stars and Stripes 4-H Club.
Survivors include: his parents, Todd and Laurie Gerrietts of Remsen; His brothers & sisters, Josie, Elizabeth, Mindy, Adam, Jacob, Isaiah, Sam and Abraham; Maternal Grandparents, Al & Susie Vaske of Remsen; Paternal Grandmother, Betty Gerrietts of LeMars, IA; Aunts & Uncles, Rick Vaske, Angie (Keith) Renken and Andy Vaske all of Remsen, Joe Vaske of Houston, TX, Mary Vaske and Tom (Katie) Vaske all of LeMars, IA, Connnie (Franco) Taracena of Sioux City, IA, Bonnie (Larry) Gardner of Hornick, IA, Sue Meier of Sioux Falls, SD, Gary (Kim) Gerrietts of LeMars, IA, Lori (Bob) Hoefling of Marcus, IA. Numerous Cousins & Friends.
Preceded in death by, grandfather, Lowell Gerrietts; an uncle , Terry Gerrietts and a cousin, Alex Renken.
