Marvin William Nitzschke, 87 years old, Remsen, IA was called home to be with his Lord Thursday, Aug. 27, 2015 surrounded by his family, at Heartland Care Center in Marcus.
Funeral Service will be Monday, Aug. 31, 2015 at 10:30 a.m. at Christ Lutheran Church LCMS in Remsen, with Pastor Dennis Martens officiating. Burial will be in the Remsen Community Cemetery at a later date. Visitation with family present will be anytime after 5 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 30, 2015. There will be a prayer service at 7 p.m. all at Christ Lutheran Church LCMS in Remsen. Services have been entrusted to the Fisch Funeral Home & Monument of Remsen. Marvin was born Aug. 1, 1928 at rural Remsen, IA, the son of William & Edith (Schoenrock) Nitzschke. He was Baptized and Confirmed at Trinity Lutheran Church rural Marcus, IA. He attended country school in Remsen Township and graduated from Remsen Public School in 1947. He then helped his father with farming until he entered the U.S. Army on April 24, 1951. He went through basic training at Fort Leonard Wood, MO. In 1952 he was sent to Kunsan, Korea being employed as an engineer for the Air Force helping build runways. He was transferred to the Army Reserve March 26, 1953 then moved back home. He was honorably discharged April 1, 1957.
He married Arline Johnson at Concordia Lutheran Church in Concord, NE on Oct. 10, 1954. They started farming near Remsen in 1955. They moved and farmed near Kingsley in 1960 and then moved back to Remsen in 1970 farming there until 2009.
He was a member of Christ Lutheran Church in Remsen, he was a Sunday School Superintendent and Elder of the church for many terms. He was also a member of Post 220 American Legion and Post 3328 V.F.W. both of Remsen. He enjoyed farming, hunting, fishing and especially spending time with his family.
Survivors include: his wife, Arline of Marcus; three daughters, RaNae (Dave) Homan of Remsen, Rhonda (Bobby) Dillingham of Farmerville, LA, Lynette (Clark) McGrew of Kahoka, MO; Grandchildren, Jeremy (Katrina) Homan of Remsen, Jared Homan of New York, NY, Merissa Homan of Austin, TX, Megan Homan of San Antonio, TX, Rylan & Zachary McGrew of Kahoka, MO; great-grandsons, Brady & Collin Homan of Remsen; great-granddaughters, Chloe and Braya Homan also of Remsen; Sisters, Colleen Ott of Remsen, Carmen Pearlstein of Clovis, CA; several nieces & nephews.
Preceded by: his parents, his father-in-law & mother-in-law LeRoy & Chloe Johnson, brother-in-law Arnold Ott, two sisters-in-law, Euvodia (Gib) Johnson, Ardyth (Lorence) Anderson.
Casket Bearers will be Jeremy, Jared, Merissa and Megan Homan, Rylan & Zachary McGrew, Brady Homan.
