Melvin Carl Fritz, Age 88, of Marcus, IA, passed away, Thursday, July 24, 2025 at his home rural Marcus, IA.
Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, July 29, 2025 at 11 a.m. at Grace Lutheran Church in Le Mars, IA with Pastor Timothy Geitz officiating. Burial will follow at Liberty Cemetery, Meriden, IA. Military honors will be conducted by F.I. Goodburn Post 517 American Legion of Marcus. Visitation with the family present will be 5-7 p.m. with a prayer service at 7 p.m.on Monday at Fisch Funeral Home & Monument-Earnest Johnson Chapel in Marcus. Visitation will resume one hour before the funeral at the church. Services have been entrusted to Fisch Funeral Home & Monument-Earnest Johnson Chapel in Marcus, Iowa. Melvin was born Jan. 19, 1937 in Circle, Montana the son of Alvin & Elsie (Volpp) Fritz. He was raised and educated in Circle, Montana. He entered the US Navy on Feb. 20, 1956 until he was honorably discharged on Jan. 14, 1960.
On June 17, 1961 he married Janet Jacobson at Tacoma, Washington. The couple made their home in Tacoma, Washington then moved Elmira, Oregon. In 1979 they moved to Cherokee, IA and finally settled in Marcus where he was a farm hand. In 1989 he worked at First Co-Op Association in Meriden, IA.
Over the years Melvin raised sheep, chickens and turkeys. He enjoyed reading western books and watching westerns. He also enjoyed watching sports.
He is survived by his 3 daughters, Melanie Fritz of Albert City, IA, Melinda Schwartz of Le Mars, IA, Mary (Ray) Conlin of Laurens, IA; 5 grandchildren, Alex (Darci), Sarah, Andrew, Jaclynn, Kurtis; 2 great-grandkids, Carly & Katrina; special grandkids, Noah Prescott & Jocelyn Bloebaum; 2 adopted daughters, Cindy Kohn & Judy McCord; his siblings, Louise Holmes, Viola (George) Titsworth; sisters-in-law, Edna Fritz, Kae Fritz, Julie Tryon, Lana (Andreas) Kaupert; brother-in-law, Arlen (Merian) Jacobson.
Melvin was preceded by his parents; his wife Janet; son-in-law, Carl Schwartz; siblings, Mildred (James) Scott, Howard Fritz, Gladys (Albert) Sukut, Richard (Joy) Fritz, Art (Glenda) Fritz, Lyle Fritz, Ralph (Lillian Currah) Fritz, Winfred Fritz, Avron Fritz, Lucille (Bernard) MassIn, Lawrence (Lillian) Fritz and Earl (Doline) Fritz; father & mother-in-law, Jalmer & Alfaria Jacobson; In-laws, John Holmes, Aldie (Myron) Ludwig, Dennis Tryon.
Casket bearers will be Billy Prescott, Noah Prescott, Cory Fritz, Mike Fritz, Pam Bergstrom, Pat Wolf.
Honorary bearers will be Rick Fritz & Katelyn Fritz.
