Mike Arens, age 82, of Remsen Iowa, passed away unexpectedly on Sunday May 31, 2026 at his home.Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:30 AM Thursday June 4, 2026 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Remsen, IA with Rev. Timothy Pick officiating and Deacon Doug Heeren assisting. Burial will follow at St. Mary’s Cemetery in Remsen. Visitation with family present will be 4-7 PM. Wednesday, there will be a Knights of Columbus rosary and vigil prayer service at 5 PM at the church. Visitation will resume from 9:30-10:15 AM on Thursday at the church. Services have been entrusted to the Fisch Funeral Home & Monument in Remsen. Service will be live-streamed at www.fischfh.com

Mike was born February 5, 1944 in Alton, IA, the son of Kenneth & Elvira (Mousel) Arens. He was raised on the family farm near Remsen and received his education from Remsen St. Mary’s Schools graduating in 1962. He was a member of United States National Guard 1968 to 1969.

His college journey started at Briar Cliff college where he received his bachelor of science degree. He then received his pharmacy degree at Creighton University, graduating in 1976. His career in pharmacy was spent working for Hy-Vee from 1976 to 2011.

Mike was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Remsen and Knights of Columbus. His passions were always centered around family, fishing trips, collecting antiques, time at the lake, horses, LONG walks, flowers, anything Christmas, casino runs, and skiing in Colorado. He loved supporting his nieces and nephews in sporting events.

He is survived by his siblings , Shirley (Ray) Harpenau, Janet Fiedler, Joyce Arens all of Remsen, IA, Patricia (Richard) Winokur of Pittsboro, NC, Lorna (Jim) Full of Littleton, CO, Jack (Patricia) Arens of Thorton, CO, Richard (Bonnie) Arens, Frank (Linda) Arens both of Remsen, IA, Marge Harmelink of Omaha, NE, Mary Ann Arens, and Kendra (Joe) Schroeder of Remsen, IA; sister-in-law, Carolyn Arens of Remsen; numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Larry Arens; brother-in-law, Leon Fiedler; two nieces, Stacie Fiedler and Corbin Arens; nephew, Russell Harpenau.

Casket bearers will be Dean Harpenau, Ken Arens, Bryan Arens, Regi Arens, Zane Schroeder, and Seth Schroeder.
