Michael John Mayer age 53, passed away July 7, 2026
Private Funeral services for family and close friends will take place at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, July 15, 2026, at Trinity Lutheran Church rural Marcus, Iowa. Rev. Alex Kaldahl will officiate. Burial at Trinity Lutheran Cemetery , rural Marcus, Iowa will be held at a later date. Visitation will be 4-6 p.m. on Tuesday, July 14 at Fisch Funeral Home & Monument, Earnest-Johnson Chapel in Marcus, Iowa. www.fischfh.com
Michael John Mayer was born on February 8, 1973, to Tom and Monica (Sand) Mayer. He was baptized and confirmed at Trinity Lutheran Church, where he remained a faithful member throughout his life later serving as a church trustee and was also on the cemetery board.
He was raised and educated in the Marcus area graduating from Marcus-Meriden-Cleghorn High School with the Class of 1991. Mike enjoyed playing baseball from Little League through college. Following graduation, he played softball for a short time with the Marcus Merchants. He continued his education at Iowa Lakes Community College, where he also played baseball and earned his degree in Farm Management in 1993.
On July 14, 2012, Mike married Angelia Langholdt. He proudly became a father to her three children, and together they welcomed their daughter, Alaina Dawn, in 2014, completing the Mayer family.
From the time he was a little boy, Mike loved farming. That passion became his life's work. He found his greatest fulfillment in farming. He owned Mayer Feedlot and become a partner with M&O Farms and helping manage T&M Cattle. He also spent countless hours raising broiler chickens for family, friends, and neighbors, bottle-feeding calves, and working with farrow-to-finish hogs.
When he wasn't farming, Mike enjoyed golfing, fishing, reading, watching westerns, learning about history, visiting train museums and collecting toy train. He especially looked forward to attending Minnesota Twins games and the College World Series with his friend, Tom Hohbach. He also enjoyed taking three-wheeler rides to visit his baby sister, collecting and restoring old John Deere tractors, and giving tractor rides to children whenever he had the chance. Above all Mike cherished his family, he adored his wife and children, especially Alaina, and their midnight rides. He enjoyed to just go for drives. He also enjoyed traveling with his family, they were usually spontaneous trips.
Those left to cherish Mike's memory include his wife, Angelia Mayer; children, Alaina Dawn Mayer, Trace Agnitsch, Kane Carlson, and Courtney Lemke; seven grandchildren, Nevaeh, Brielle, Zaiyden, Lydia, Gemma, Dakota, and Layla; his parents, Tom and Monica Mayer; sisters, Ann (Jeff) Goth and Stephanie (Mike) Peters; brother-in-law, Chad (Jami) Langholdt; sister-in-law, Tricia (Joe) Vannatta; along with many nieces, nephews, relatives, neighbors, and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents-in-law, Terry and Dianna Langholdt; his uncle Al Sand; and his Aunt Dawn Mayer.
Casket Bearers will be Brian Tuttle, John Kauffman, Cody Ohlendorf, Trace Agnitsch, Kane Carlson, Aarron Cronin.
