Milo Harnack, 86 years old, of Remsen, IA died peacefully at his home in Remsen on Tuesday, Jan. 31, 2012. Funeral service will be at 10:30 a.m., Friday, Feb. 3, 2012 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Remsen with Rev. William McCarthy officiating and Rev. Tim Johnson concelebrating. Burial will be in the St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery in Remsen. Visitation will be any time after 2 p.m. on Thursday, Feb. 2, 2012. There will be a parish rosary at 3 p.m. and a vigil prayer service at 7 p.m. followed by a Knights of Columbus and Catholic Order of Foresters Rosary all at Fisch Funeral Home & Monument in Remsen. Milo was born on July 22, 1925 at rural Remsen, the son of Herbert & Anna (Kohlmeier) Harnack. Milo was raised on a farm south of Remsen and graduated from LeMars High School in 1942. He worked for the family business, Harnack Shelling, throughout the years. On Sept. 12, 1946 he married Kathleen Minten in Alton, IA. The couple then farmed south of Remsen until her death on Sept. 1, 1957. On Jan. 23, 1960 he married Kathleen Bergin in Remsen. The couple farmed near Remsen. They farmed until 1974 when they moved into Remsen. Milo also worked as a truck driver, construction worker and welder over the years. Kathleen died Dec. 28, 1997. Milo was a member of the St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Knights of Columbus & Catholic Order of Foresters. Milo loved fishing, bowling and woodworking, particularly making toys & gifts for his grandchildren & great-grandchildren. Survivors include his son, Mark of Remsen; two daughters and their husbands, Noreen & Steve Linney of Eden Prairie, MN, Colleen & Ron Groepper of Sacramento, CA; one daughter-in-law, Pam Harnack of Lone Tree, IA; eight grandchildren; eleven great-grandchildren; three sisters-in-law, Pat Harnack of Remsen, Marilee & Bob Elliott of Richfield, MN, Emily Schroeder of Marcus, IA; two brothers-in-law, Don & Mary Minten of Alton, IA, Myron & Nancy Minten of Beckville, TX. Preceded in death by his parents, one son, Roger, one daughter, Suzanne, his brother Clayton. Casket Bearers will be: John Hodgen, Chris Feller, Steve Stodden, Scott Groepper, Paul Bergin & Mike Jorgensen.
